He hasn't been able to locate it since last year. My guess is he's hoping to sneak fastballs by with velocity since he can't locate them and, more often than not, it's up and in the zone.

I just checked his stats didn't realize his ERA with the Mets was over 8. Yikes! lol

Yea because they got so much after helsley had a down year lol and Fedde yea no way they could have got more for him in the off season. Woo even said other baseball executives were shocked Mo and company didn’t want to trade helsley in the offseason

Mo never commits fully. A proper commit would have been finding an offer Arenado would accept and selling high on Fedde and Helsley. They will have to eat most of Arenado's salary now, they got nothing for Fedde and Helsley didnt improve his value. worst thing about it is the team did it all just to likely miss the playoffs again.

Or, a situation where Dewitt II or Dewitt III ordered him not to sell off Helsley (especially) or Fedde? After all, w/o Helsley's mlb-leading 2024 effort, StL would have arguably been a sub-.500 team. Fans appreciated that notion, and if he were traded asap, how might it affect fan perceptions, i.e., ticket sales, for 25?

That’s a valid point. Sell the popular closer prior to a reset season might tank the gates.

No, fans don't come to the park to see the closer pitch. But, a mediocre team rolling into 2025, absent the 2024 version of Helsley leading the bullpen, would a tougher sell to the fans & to paraphrase you, require an even bigger miracle to get lucky...in the eyes of those same fans.

My 2 cents is that sort of thinking speaks to why we've been stuck with a reset instead of something approaching a rebuild - ever since the bottom fell out in 23.

You may be right the cardinals are probably dumb enough to operate like that but the team was going to be mediocre with or without helsley and fedde they should have operated with the desire to build a good team for the future not maintain a mediocre one
