Leahy will be told to train as a starter this winter and could replace A. Pallante if he has a solid spring!
he'd be replacing Mikolas
Nope

Pallante

No way you can have Pallante in the 2026 rotation!

Mikolas needs to be replaced w/a proven major league starter acquired either via trade or signed as a free agent.

I'd rather see O'Brien converted to a starter than Leahy

Just b/c he started, doesn't mean he can. It's seems to be the same song and dance we each try to croon when trying to figure out the rotation.

Keep him in the BP...imo.

maybe the new R&D guys can make him a serviceable starter? I don't think so...but maybe. :?: :?: :?:
Agree. Leave him where he is finding success. He is and can be an important part of the Pen. Go out and get a legit starter in FA and one by trade.

Free Agent
Gray
Trade Acquisition
Liberatore
McGreevy

Mathews in the wings.
Lots of pitchers come up with potential and as starters.
We then find out if they have the repertoire to make it as a starter?
That usually means having 3-4 quality pitches.
Some guys find out they only have 1 or 2.
But if they are good enough they can be highly successful throwing 1 or 2 innings at a time.
That may be Leahy which you pointed out.
For 2025 hopefully Libby continues to improve.
McGreevy just getting started.
Mathews next up in ST.
Doyle later next year or 2027?
They are a few others who have potential.
Pallante? BP??
Bummer about Roby who was really starting to come on!

O'Brien/31 yrs old to start 2026 has control issues (15 BB's in 32 IP), hasn't been a true starter since 2021 in AAA (4.55 ERA).

He looks like a possible asset in the pen', I don't see him ever being a starter in MLB.

Better chance of being either the setup man or closer.

Leahy as a guy who can relieve more than one inning would have more value than him being another deficient starting pitcher.

He's proven to have value in that role.

Leave it be.

Leahy has 4 solid pitches. If the team feels he can prepare as a starter and will be better than what we have, I can live with that.

IF he can get his control issues straightened out, then he's got all the tools to be either!

But he is heading to the backside of his career so this may be "who he is".

This is exactly what the Cardinals do and some people buy into.

Have a no name middle reliever that out performs projections a bit and then Oli will drop a hint that they may want to see him stretched out. Then the booth picks up on it and talks about it relentlessly.

Next thing you know, a large number of fans start buying into it.

Then he will have some spot success mixed in with a number of what should be expected sketchy to bad starts. Then it will take two years plus of "runway" before they finally decide he is not a viable starting pitcher on a real winning team.
