The Cardinals are the only team to have 0 in the top 100 and highest is 138. Good teams have 5-6. Can we admit this team has no star power.

Mo is leaving this team in terrible shape. It's a lot worse than the team he inherited. Thanks, Mo.Youboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:05 pm http://www.espn.com/mlb/playerratings

WC at 71 and Donovan at 85. Had to hit Next to see 50-100.Youboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:05 pm http://www.espn.com/mlb/playerratings

But no love for Winn on this list? I'd keep Winn over Contreras and Donovan. Even Scott rated higher than Winn on this list. So it's suspect unless it's only based on fantasy / rotisserie stats.

I must have missed them. I saw William but not Wilson. Winn offense is not on par with other SS. He has some with to do. Gray was 138. I just don’t see what the plan is other than saving $. Going young with only 1 player with star upside (Wetherholt) will not be enough. That $100m needs to be spent on 3 superstars to join him.RunSup wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:16 pmWC at 71 and Donovan at 85. Bloom hasn’t even taken control yet, we won’t know what the true plan is until he’s in there and Mo is gone.Youboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:35 pmI must have missed them. I think it's safe to say that whatever the true plan is, a key-if-not-primary component will be saving money for the DeWitts.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:38 pmBloom hasn’t even taken control yet, we won’t know what the true plan is until he’s in there and Mo is gone.Youboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:35 pmI must have missed them. Winn's defense is elite but overall he's nowhere near being a Top 100 MLB player.RunSup wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:16 pmWC at 71 and Donovan at 85. Had to hit Next to see 50-100.Youboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:05 pm http://www.espn.com/mlb/playerratings

He’s 22nd in fWAR this season. He was 42nd overall last year. Last two years combined he’s 27th. Even if you give him a 50% credit (ie add 13 to the 27, that makes 40) and double that with pitchers, that’s still within the top 100.rockondlouie wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:45 pmWinn's defense is elite but overall he's nowhere near being a Top 100 MLB player.RunSup wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:16 pmWC at 71 and Donovan at 85. Fine if you have Pujols Edmonds and Rolen to carry a Def only SS. But when you have 3 of those guys Pages and Scott are other 2 you would need Judge Ohtahni Alonso Soto to balance them out.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 14:50 pmHe’s 22nd in fWAR this season. Yea but you don’t get rid of an elite defensive 22 year old shortstop with offensive upside because you have players that suck on defense and offense like walker and Gorman elsewhere you dump the ones who suck at everythingYouboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 16:03 pmFine if you have Pujols Edmonds and Rolen to carry a Def only SS. Re: ESPN MLB player rankings
Let’s say another team is willing to trade a young power hitting OF that could be a star for him? Wetherholt to SS and Donovan stays at 2B. Not saying it will happen but he has to be shopped because Wetherholt is also a plus defender at SS and they need a power bat and will likely have to come from trades and you have to give to receive. He’s not “untouchable” good like Witt.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 16:07 pmYea but you don’t get rid of an elite defensive 22 year old shortstop with offensive upside because you have players that suck on defense and offense like walker and Gorman elsewhere you dump the ones who suck at everythingYouboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 16:03 pmFine if you have Pujols Edmonds and Rolen to carry a Def only SS. Why would a team trade a power hitting OF who will be a star for a defensive shortstop who people say isn’t very good if even the brilliant scouts on cards talk say he isn’t very good and should be traded so will the real scouts. And just about all of the scouting reports I’ve read say JJ isn’t going to stick at short. I’m not saying he’s untouchable but to trade him just to trade him to make room for JJ who isn’t likely to stick at short and so Gorman who sucks defensively and offensively can have a position is pretty dumb and severely weakens the team in the future. JJ has 8 errors in 50 games at short this season Masyn has 2 in 109Youboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 19:01 pmLet’s say another team is willing to trade a young power hitting OF that could be a star for him? Re: ESPN MLB player rankings
Because they are going to have to trade 3/4 players this off season and packaging a Winn/Waker/Gorman type package might interest a small market team because of cost control. There is a logjam at OF/MI/DH. Noot and Gorman will get no return. Who do you think gets a star caliber player fans want to watch in return? You trade anyone not named Wetherholt that can return a MOTO bat.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 21:57 pmWhy would a team trade a power hitting OF who will be a star for a defensive shortstop who people say isn’t very good if even the brilliant scouts on cards talk say he isn’t very good and should be traded so will the real scouts. That would be fine if it’s possible but JJ isn’t sticking at shortstop long term and has 8 errors in 50 games at shortstop this season and masyn has 2 in 109 in the majors weakening the defense on a team that doesn’t have good pitching or offense is not a good moveYouboughtit wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 22:05 pmBecause they are going to have to trade 3/4 players this off season and packaging a Winn/Waker/Gorman type package might interest a small market team because of cost control.
