Barely any of those players exist anymore. Only a few.


The league average ops for 1b is .748

The yankees are starting paul goldschmidt with 10 homeruns 40 rbis and .753 ops at 1b
The red sox have toro with a .689 ops
Astros have christian walker with a .701 ops at 1b
Mariners have rowdy tellez with a .683 ops
Brewers have hoskins with .768 ops
Padres have arraez with .720 ops.

None of those guys are 30 homerun 100 rbi guys either even though rbis is team stat anyways. That is half the playoff teams.

Burkeson would be fine if he had .775 ops. The rest of the lineup no. And im not even a burly worshiper like shady.

and why would you remove a .993 fielding % 1B in Contreras for a .987 fielding % 1B in Burleson?

And how is that .987 fielding % at 1B "Slick"??

Out of the 44 players with 200 plus innings at 1B, Burleson is ranked 42nd.

We arent moving contreras off 1b, but using fielding percentage as measure and ranking of defense in 2025 is quite embarrassing.

Burleson is at 0 drs and -1 outs above average for the season

Contreras -1 drs but 5 outs above avg. Contreras is avg to slightly above average.

No he is not, you need a LOT more power than he is putting out. 15 HRs is great for a player like Winn, not for 1B unless you're hitting 400 with 100+ RBIs

that guy likely isn't currently on the roster --- burleson will have an mlb career and maybe even with the cards but if he is your starting first baseman or DH then you are the a's or the pirates.

If Contreras was dealt in the offseason and another 1B NOT acquired then Burleson is the likely replacement.

What do you mean by “future”? Conteras has a couple more years on his contract, so are you’re asking if Burly is the 1B of 2028 and beyond?

At the conclusion of Contreras' current contract with the Cardinals. Burleson could just be entering his prime years as a player.
