Does this assessment period end if/when Arenado returns?

He's not returning. They will work his shoulder for the rest of the season

I feel he needs to rest the shoulder. Get it well. Is why he can't hit this year. I don't know. His offense has fallen off

1. He came in for an injured Nootbar.
2. Look up the term ‘benched.’ Not starting one game isn’t ’benched.’

1. Obviously there is some rust. I hope he starts most of the rest of the season.

You got me on number one of that the case except, not starting a hot player. Still ride the hot horse.

As for number two. No way. He would be the worst third baseman in recent memory.

No, a good player should be able to sit out ONE game.

But let's use your example: "Hey JW! You're on a 4 game hitting streak. We will keep starting you until you cool off. In other words, better get a hit today, buddy, or you're riding the pine!"

That's good for the psyche, no?

No under my thought, an 0-4 day during a hot streak would be just another day. No sense to bench immediately.

Your smart. You know what I mean to ride a hot hand, someone that might carry a team for a week or so. That’s my intent.

Last night, Saggese did exactly that when he almost threw his bat at a two strike pitch and hit a bloop single to center. That’s what set up Donavan’s game winning at bat.

Contreras seems to take strike three a lot.

Yep. He is a guess hitter, at least right now. He is often taking strike one right down central too. Whatever happened to the two strike approach? Geez.

I don't like seeing guys take strike three standing there. With Contreras is it worse than swinging st the sweeper a foot outside

Yeah, some should just stay in the right lane 99% of the time.
And like you referenced, when you are passing somebody, pass them relatively quickly even if that means over riding your cruise for a short time, duh, and when you finally get around them get back in the right lane where you belong.
But no, let's form a convoy and slow up everybody forming a mess, plus the danger of driving side by side unnecessarily. Always fun to be side by side with semis around curves for no good reason. Then add rain or worse. But I regress.

I am really hoping Gormans issues are a fluke. He played the position in the minors didn’t he? I can’t imagine he got so many reps in minors and played this bad. Of course they had Herrera at catcher and he ain’t no catcher.

You can look up his minor league numbers and realize why he ishouldnt be at 3b

It seems like our player development pushes guys into roles they should not have. I’m not sure I understand that. Incompetence?

We were taught in little league - don’t just stand there and look at a called 3rd strike. Swing at anything close to being over the plate.

Don’t have MLB comparison team stat on how many called strike 3 pitches Cardinals take vs. other teams but as far as total team strikeouts many may be surprised Cardinals strike out much less than others. 21 of the 30 mlb teams have more strikeouts.
Bet with all the CT talk thru the year on JW , Gorman, Noot striking out that many would think Cardinals rank high in SO.. not thr case.

Gorman seems a better 2nd baseman than 3rd. At 2nd he seems to pivot well and throw well, at 3rd his movements look very blocky.
