Tigers D should be much improved over last

Post by hdhntr148 »

Batoon in his first year had really good results even with areas of his D that were less than great. Secondary play was inconsistant especially the safeties and the corners as well. Plus the pass rush was ok but not great. lbers and DT play was solid.

Eli and staff went out and added top players to secondary that gave them experience and production just like he said. Especially bringing in JC who is a very experienced star Safety plus others who IMO will really improve back end play which was huge problem last year. should really help talented but inconsistant group be much improved. Having a real Star playing the Star position will really make back end do well with DC. Plus with very talented and deep DE room will make whole d roll. Lbers very strong experienced and deep real strength of team. DT's were biggest area of concern and in saturdays scrimmage new names popped up which gives on more confidence in that room's play. Senior DT from Ohio showed out and Tr freshman Bodford made some plays. should have a better rotation than I know I thought they would have.

With another year at the DC position and in SEC IMO This D will be a real strength of the team.

Much improved? That will be difficult considering how well they performed last year.

In the 2024 season, the Missouri Tigers' defense ranked 20th nationally. Specifically, they allowed 317.5 total yards per game, ranking 17th in the nation. Their passing defense allowed 2357 passing yards, placing them 18th overall.

For me “much improved” would mean no worse than top 10 nationally in almost all categories. I hope I’m wrong but considering who they play, I don’t see it.

as I said specifically they had a good statistical year but with not a great pass rush and so much inconsistancy in the secondary especially the safeties with the transfers that arrived to shore up ALL areas of weakness could easily happen IMO. who could forget how awful Marvin Burks was at time in coverage or Pride? Now they have much more competition and an absolute STUD in JC who is older and has been very productive in SEC.

again it's JMHO and if your only a stat coach some might find it difficult but as one who has coached a lot of football and used to looking at D's to figure out weaknesses and how to attack them. This one is going to be much more difficult to do. Batoon and Eli have many more options than last year to use.

They're playing the same SEC teams as last year and none of them are significantly improved on offense so I don't see why they can't get near the top ten with this improved D. Every facet of the defense is improved. Better DEs will make the secondary look better even if it's not greatly improved. LB will be very good with the additions and depth that we now have. DTs are going to be at least as good as last year and again depth will mean little to no fall off and still fresh late in the game.

Oklahoma and Auburns’ coaches should (will?) be gone if their offenses don’t improve. Obviously I’d love to see that in both cases but OU in particular should be much improved (and healthier) on offense this season.

We'll see if Jackson Arnold was being held back by a bad OU Oline and receiving corps or not. Even if he was I don't expect Auburn to be a great offense may be a aTm level offense. OU should be improved, yes, but they were such trash last year that anything would be an improvement. There is still a lot of questions on offense for them though. I like our defense compared to the big question mark that their offense is.

I think our offense will also be significantly better than last year too and that will help the defense stay off the field and be more fresh as the game wears on.

I think we could easily be a top 15 defense if not top 10.

The Mizzou offense was #8 in the country last season in Time of Possession.

#1 in the SEC. #3 in the P4

I looked up OU before making my post yesterday and even I didn’t realize how bad they were last year on offense. I believe there were 21 teams I counted below them in yards per game which would have them like 115th in the country. Woof. Since their fanbase is near the top of my hate list I hope this fall goes much the same but I did like their portal additions.

My only question for Mizzou’s D is pass rush. Excited to see how Wilson fits in and who steps up with the two young guys transferring out.

Yeah, adding Mateer and the OC should improve things but I think they still have questions (worse than MU) on the oline and still not a great WR corps. So, they'll be better but from 115 to maybe 50 which is still not great.

Drink has been swooning over the DE crew since spring practice so I think we're going to be in good shape there. LBs are going to be vicious. Safeties should be very solid and hopefully the pass rush will give the CBs a little help although I don't think they're as bad as some are feeling. If Pride picks up where he left off last year and improves a little maybe we'll be not spectacular but at least solid. Hopefully we won't see Burks getting way out of position anymore.

CFN described OU as a 10-win team with a 6-win schedule. I like that but don't know if either case is true. That description was before Mateer's sports gambling 'inside jokes' hit the news. We should all hope there's nothing there.
