MU's season will be judged by
IF they are competitive against the Big brand teams where they really were Awful against last year. SC, Bama and Aggies games are the tests that could have MU brand really rising and finally getting respect we have been craving. Winning two games against this group would be image changing.
This D will be better than last years which had very solid results. Having great depth and talent at DE, LB and Secondary with interior DL very competitive just not elite.
with such depth the Special teams should be better which wouldn't be hard as they have sucked for years.
Offense will be much better and hopefully Moore will be in attack mode from kickoff and get big leads going into second halves instead of having all these too close games. Oline will be solid again, running attack high end, WR room will be very good with more kids participating and QB play will be very good.

While I certainly hope you're correct in your prediction that the offense will be "much better", you seem to be forgetting that last year's offense currently has 5 players on active NFL rosters, one taken in the first round (Membou), one in the 2nd round (Burden), one in the 7th round (Bryant) and 2 free agents, Cook and Wease. Exactly where (at which positions) will the offense be "much better"?hdhntr148 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 08:14 am IF they are competitive against the Big brand teams where they really were Awful against last year. Wins and losses.
Re: MU's season will be judged by
they will have a bell cow running back instead of a couple of good ones, with excellent depth behind him. QB play IMO will be better because of better athletes who in Beau's case make better decisions faster than Brady did. Both have stronger arms and better touch downfield according to their HS tape. Stretching the field will open up the underneath routes better IF Kirby doesn't get too conservative yet again. The receiving corps will have a LB like in Coleman who will give them similar numbers if not better and the group overall has better potential. Especially with a healthy Speedy Johnson who should be much more effective. Oline is experienced and very deep will really be able to pound out excellent run attack, which then makes the passing attack better. Obviously this is JMHO as always we shall see how it plays out on the field.edwin drood wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 09:42 amWhile I certainly hope you're correct in your prediction that the offense will be "much better", you seem to be forgetting that last year's offense currently has 5 players on active NFL rosters, one taken in the first round (Membou), one in the 2nd round (Burden), one in the 7th round (Bryant) and 2 free agents, Cook and Wease. forgot to mention that Beau at least comes from a heavy TE usage offense which with the terrific talent MU has, which wasn't utilized because of injury last season could be big source of production this year with the two Transfer TE's added to the bigtime starter who can't seem to stay healthy.

This is all that matters to the CFP folks and that was obvious last year.

I’m just of the mindset that winning 8+ games, regardless of how the losses go, is more important than playing Alabama or A&M better than last year.HoopsGuruII wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 12:02 pmThis is all that matters to the CFP folks and that was obvious last year.
Almost beating Georgia in 2022 was a nice few hours, but I enjoyed the past two seasons significantly more.
Re: MU's season will be judged by
Agreed....of course one can judge all kinds of players and games and coaching and stats and bad luck......but the record is the bottom line, isn't it?
We all want Missouri to keep the losses to 1, possibly 2 and get in the CFP 's and then be judged by the fans of college football across the country......and win a National Championship title.
The ultimate "judge by".
Re: MU's season will be judged by
Point is when MU was winning and then got gobsmacked by both Aggies and Bama and was literally run off the field you could hear all the talking heads going that's so MU like and they STILL arn't competitive with the big brands. thats why when preseason polls came out MU was so far down the list despite two terrific win loss years. it's about perception and now with the three top teams coming to como? would be better thought of if only having 9 win season but beating one or two of the top teams and being competitive in the others.
After putting together incredible depth all over D especially with a host of edge rushers to pressure the QB this could be the historic year to totally change perceptions of MU FB.

The point is Mizzou isn’t the type of school who gets into the playoff because they played such and such close. The committee just chose schools like SMU and Indiana over Alabama who might’ve had a better resume. In a world where Alabama doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt does anyone believe Mizzou would? Optics just isn’t the deciding factor.
So to get to the promised land Mizzou needs to force their way in. How does that happen?
Wins and losses.

Re: MU's season will be judged by
True, but getting there this year would require at least 1 victory in the 3 big games at home. But if the SC game is the 1 win, I'm not going to complain if the only losses are to Bama and aTm. 10-2 and CFP? Maybe. However, if there are several 10-2 teams, losing to both Bama and aTm at home may be the disqualifier as well.Barksdale's People wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 13:39 pm The point is Mizzou isn’t the type of school who gets into the playoff because they played such and such close. Of course, this is all highly speculative at this point. But if the Tigers do go 4-0 on the road in the SEC, but just 2-2 at home, judgment of those road wins will depend on how good Auburn, Vandy, Arky and OU end up being.
Can't wait for the season to begin and the Ws to fall into place, the Ls to come few and far between and speculation of all sorts to fade away.

This.
Because of the monetary investment, which is nearly “all in” by Mizzou, there is no excuse for a major rebuilding year or fall off. The schedule, while better than SEC pundits are trying to say, should allow for a very good record. IMO anything less than 8 wins is a complete failure and we should really expect 9+ wins and at least a 5-3 record in the SEC.
Otherwise, why are we committing a fortune to football at the expense of other highly competitive and popular sports in the SEC that aren’t supported financially?

Alabama lost the benefit of the doubt, because they lost at Oklahoma 24-3 late in the season. The committee just chose schools like SMU and Indiana over Alabama who might’ve had a better resume. In a world where Alabama doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.
But even that didn't keep them out of the top 12. The Tide didn't make the playoffs due to automatic bids.

Bottom feeders like Winon denigrate and cheapen big Mizzou wins with posts like this. Beating OU in their 1st year in the SEC was very important to Mizzou fans and you make it sound like OU was a Juco team and Bama losing to them was an embarrassment.
Now, clearly I’m posting an irrational reply implying you are taking a shot at Mizzou with your post. See how that feels?

When you lose to Vandy at home and get humiliated by a mediocre OU team, you ain’t going to no playoff!Armchair QB wrote: ↑10 Aug 2025 14:18 pmwinonsports wrote: ↑10 Aug 2025 09:40 amAlabama lost the benefit of the doubt, because they lost at Oklahoma 24-3 late in the season. The committee just chose schools like SMU and Indiana over Alabama who might’ve had a better resume.
