Helsley tonight

Post by njcardfan »

Third of an inning. 2 hits. 2 runs. 1 HR. I'm guessing he doesn't come back out although he only threw 8 pitches.

Never know what you get with him. Overall I really liked him but glad they didn’t spend elite closer $$ on him. I thought his wrestler entry was stupid too. I couldn’t imagine walking out all dramatic like that and getting rocked.

Was hoping Hels would do well post-trade but hey, maybe we can get a decent deal and sign him long term (wishful thinking).

Yeah...you're used to quiet whispers and getting "rocked."

?? You must be one of those grown men who still think wrestling is real to find any offense in my comment. Found your button I guess. Sorry to break the bad news to you, but it’s fake.

Would love to have him back but not a top dollar which he’ll probably get. Would need to spend elsewhere to compensate for his volatility as a closer.

My bad, I guess. Still don’t get it but maybe I’m just out of touch on your reference.

Actually was out of the inning without allowing a run, but third out was cancelled on a pitch clock violation. Next pitch was a 2-run HR. Mets announcers were shocked.

I don’t like that rule. The time saved in a gane is minimal. Umps could move the game along as well.

It was necessary because the umps didn't enforce it at all. They did 30 years ago, but it consistently got worse.

Minimal? Games are 28 minutes shorter than they were in 2022, the lowest since 1984. Pitchers and batters no longer do the insane routines. Best addition in a long time.

agreed. no more endless fidgeting with batting gloves.. stepping off the rubber over and over.. meaningless throws to 1st.. repeated catcher visits to the mound

no thx

Helsley to date:

WHIP is 1.40 - highest since 2021

40 hits this year. 2nd highest in career.

ERA IS 2.61 which is highest in career.

Contreras HR was crushed. HR put game out of reach for Mets. Helsley lost game vs Clev on 8/4.

Safe to say he has not been light out for the Mets. The big time contract is in jeopardy. Hope it is just one of those years that relievers experience.

Yes, in 2022 prior to pitch clock , games averaged 3 hrs 4 min.. in 2023 , first year implemented game were 2 hours 40 min.
24 min. Faster
For a weeknight game at Busch, leaving the park at 9:36 pm vs 10:00 pm is sure more fan friendly if you work early the next morning .

No way he should've been signed to an extension.

Can't believe people were actually wanting that.
