Tigers in the NFL
Brady Cook didn't hurt his chances to stick with the Jets last night. Passing he went 6/8 for 62 yards, no TD, no Int. Had one decent run called back for a holding call. He may have been outshone by Adrian Martinez who threw 11/16 for 152 yards and 2 YD and 0 ints. I watched Martinez for 3 years here in Lincoln and was never really impressed. He used to consistently throw off the wrong foot, leading to lots of short and errant passes. Each of his 3 season with Nebraska was worse than the previous.one. Hopefully Cook will get more chances in upcoming preseason games.
Fellow Jet Harrison Meavis was 2/2 on PATs and made 3 FGs.
Cody Schrader scored on a 9 yard TD pass for the Rams against Dallas.
Today at noon Luther Burden and Da Bears will face off against Theo Wease and the Dolphins.

Re: Tigers in the NFL
Cook entered the game on the Jets second possession of the first quarter and led a 12 play drive which started at the 6 yard line. The drive stalled when Cook completed a third down pass, but the receiver tried to get 5 more yards instead of just the one more needed.
On the next drive, Cook threw a nice swing pass into the flat on 3rd and goal from the 15. But the RB stepped OB at the 4 turning for the pylon, which he did get inside of.
Martinez played the second half, when the Packers defensive personnel was significantly different.

Re: Tigers in the NFL
I thought Cook looked pretty solid. He was rushed out of the pocket 2-3 times but still made good plays. They were playing conservative so hard to showcase too much. Burden looked like a rookie which is expected. His second catch was a good one, but again hard to show his elusiveness on the crossing routes into the heart of the D.
Schrader looked like the best back on the field (see below link for 3 of his plays). He had 2-3 long runs and caught a nice pass for a TD. In one drive I think the game him the ball 3 straight times with all 3 runs being first downs. The commentators were praising him his blocking as well. He was the 3rd RB to play (Williams did not play), so that looks to be 4th on depth chart. He needs to jump one person to make the team unless he is on special teams.

Schrader looks like a guy who's going to make an NFL roster.
Definitely needs to excel on special teams but I don't see that being a problem.

Re: Tigers in the NFL
I did not hear this over the weekend, but Cook hurt his ankle and limped off field before Mevis 22yd FG before half.

"Undrafted rookie Brady Cook suffered an ankle injury late in Tuesday's practice and was seen limping off to the sideline to be worked on by trainers."
Glenn offered a glimmer of optimism, saying the Jets don’t believe Cook’s injury is serious,

Albert O's still hanging in there (for now) with the Raiders and he's #86.

Re: Tigers in the NFL
Boy does this sound familiar.
Cook led the Jets on a 4th quarter drive. 14 plays. 89 yards. 6:32
He was 5-6 passing for 70 yards.

Re: Tigers in the NFL
Tuesday, 27 August day is the "come to Jesus" day for many prospective players. It is the date that NFL rosters need to get down to 53. The NFL no longer has multiple so called "cut down" days before rosters are finalized.
If the Jets don't keep Cook the Lions could sure use him. Hendon Hooker (68th pick - high third round in 2023 draft out of Tennessee) has been a disaster. In 2023 he was mostly recovering from injury. In 2024 when the Lions were so thoroughly afraid Hooker wasn't ready they brought Teddy Bridgewater out of retirement to back up Goff. So far this preseason he's look horrible in his battle with Kyle Allen to be the backup. If the Lions decide to keep three QBs (Goff, Allen and ?) I hope they go with someone like Cook instead of Hooker.
