Saggase was the all minor league second baseman before being traded to the Cards. Roby is a possible high end starter. King was excellent the past two years. You failed to mention that Montgomery had a 6.23 ERA in 2024 and is out for all of 2025 with Tommy John surgery.Wattage wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 08:39 amSaggese and roby are hopes. King has mostly been a solid reliever til he blew up this year with injuries as relievers are fickle. He cpuld easily rebound next year but he is 30 and probably wont be part of the long term future. Although at the time of the trade we werent committed to a rebuild yet so king made more sense as a return at the time. He has 2 more ywars of control. Maybe if he rebound next year he can be flipped for a useful prospect.

Relax, i wasnt griping about the trade overall, just expressing surprise that fejong who we thought was nothing could end up giving us one of the best longterm pieces.Cranny wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 09:00 amSaggase was the all minor league second baseman before being traded to the Cards. And you forgot to mention how much he helped the Rangers in the playoffs. He was traded for the playoff run and was outstanding.Cranny wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 09:00 amSaggase was the all minor league second baseman before being traded to the Cards. If they are keepers, further proof the reset is effective. Cut the fat, find who can play. Here’s two.

"Haul"
Saggese = JAG, doubt he's here in 2026
Roby = Injured all the time
King = good 2024, 5.18 ERA 2025
Hardly a "haul"

Let’s see how it plays out. And your description of Saggese is way off base.rockondlouie wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 09:48 am"Haul"

Issue. One says Saggese is another player. One says he’s much more. Explain such an expansive gap of opinion.Cranny wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 09:50 amLet’s see how it plays out. And your description of Saggese is way off base.rockondlouie wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 09:48 am"Haul"

In 2024, Saggese was rated by MLB.com as the Cardinals #5 prospect. McGreevy was #15. Mathews was #22.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 09:52 amIssue. One says Saggese is another player. As I've stated, I believe he just needs consistent playing time. I think he will be either ab everyday starter for us or a highly used utility man. He is cut from the same cloth as Donovan.
Agree on Roby - has REALLY good stuff, but HAS to be able to pitch.
King - I think he was just a throw in, in order to get our pen through the rest of the 2023 season. Turned out to do okay. Had a decent 2024, then has stunk this year.
As with most trades, it will need time to see how our guys turn out. Patience is the key.
And I'm willing to bet you WILL be pleasantly surprised with Saggese!!

But all I see is a back of the bench, utility player at best who will NEVER be a starter here (or elsewhere in MLB).
Career: .228 .272 .329 .601/-1 DRS
(And I just don't see the Donny comp, he's a career: .280 .360 .406 .766 hitter).
To me Saggesse's JAG.
It wouldn't surprise me to see him tossed into any deals C. Blooms makes this winter or next season.

Re: svanson and o reilly look like keepers
Donovan is a guy who can play all over the diamond. Same as Saggese. Donovan is a throwback gamer. Works hard, no flash, no nonsense, just ball. Breathes it. Saggese is the same. Old-school type that is a baseball rat.rockondlouie wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 11:25 amI hope you're right, certainly not rooting for him to fail.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 10:54 amRock, rockondlouie wrote: ↑09 Aug 2025 09:48 am"Haul"

Give him time. Unfair to use his sporadic numbers against him. Probably wasn't/isn't quite ready yet. But close. Just needs to play, adjust, and get comfortable.
