Re: I hate the Cubs
I've always despised Cubs FANS, mostly because of how disrespectful the "frat fanboys" are when they come to STL, yelling and screaming "CUBS!!!" and dumb obscenities right into passerby faces for no other reason than to be drunk, obnoxious rtards.
On the flip side, I despise the actual Brewers TEAM, whereas their fans are as nice as can be. At least, that was before this season, because they never really had a proven strategy for success, they would just seemingly find all these different ways to rattle off unlikely wins in such a lucky fashion.
This year, though, you have to tip your cap as they say. They might have the best rotation in MLB and their strategy of neverending pressure and speed on the basepaths is clearly ahead of the curve for the rest of the league.
Amazing that one of the lowest payrolls in MLB succeeds at this but, sure enough, they do. Now if it was found out they were somehow cheating ala Astros style and got caught, that'd be a lot of fun to watch.

Me too, Cranny. But I must confess that some of their pesky fans (for example: at my old workplace b4 retirement) could get mighty agitating!

In September 2003, one of the best friends I ever had died. He'd been a Cardinals fan, but switched to the Cubs when the Cards traded Dizzy Dean (1938). Yes, he went back a long way...and yes, he was unhappy about the Dean trade.
After he passed, I purposed in myself that for him I wouldn't root against the Cubs anymore for that year. I made it for what little remained of the regular season. When they got to the postseason.....couldn't do it then.
I don't hate the Cubs. It just is what it is.

Was it because of the way they handled the deaths of Musial and prior to that, Kyle?

That's emblematic of what makes this rivalry the best in baseball.LewisL wrote: ↑08 Aug 2025 12:47 pm My dad & his brother (my uncle J) grew up in small southern IL town, both diehard Cardinals fans. When uncle J became an adult, he moved up to Chicago area for a job, raised a family of 3 kids, who became Cub fans. All our lives, my cousins and I razzed each other about our rivalry. (good naturedly). Last July, I hosted them all for a family event and attended the Cubs/Cards at Busch. Uncle J, my brother & I all decked in Cards gear, my cousins wore Cubs stuff. I'll be at Wrigley with for our last series at end of the season.

Eh, it's always been a fairly friendly rivalry to me. Sure, the Rizzo era Cubs weren't as respectable as the Williams-Santo-Banks era Cubs. But I have had no problems going to Wrigley as a well-advertised Cardinals fan, and I don't think Cubbie fans have any fear visiting Busch, nor should they. It's still just a game after all.

Yeah I am sure it had absolutely nothing to do with being the highest paid manager ever.ramfandan wrote: ↑08 Aug 2025 12:25 pmThe Brewers offered Counsell $5.5 M to stay with the Brewers. Being a 'free agent ' , he felt he could do better elsewhere. Most thought he would land with the Mets and former POBO Stearns . In the 11th hour , Cubs called Counsell and offered him $8 M per year .. 5 years -$40 I heard the Cubs were more attractive as Chicago is just an hour+ drive to Counsell's home in Whitefish Bay, Wis (suburb of Milw) Cubs agreed to allow him to drive home after some homestands etc . and that was quite the perk for him to be with his family now and then . Won't hold that against him plus his mega deal with Cubs helps all managers get somewhat of a boost in pay (not to his level but hopefully overall ).Hooking wrote: ↑08 Aug 2025 12:09 pmNo way!
Watching Craig Counsel and his dumb face go to a division rival for more money showing how greedy he is when he had great teams in Milwaukee and a history there. Then seeing the Brewers continue to be the better team is great! I hope they win 10 WS before he retires and never wins one.
I absolutely hold it against him.
But then again, I never liked him and his dumb face and his dumb batting stance.

I don’t mind the Cubs or the Brewers.
At this point in time I dislike the way the Cardinals have fallen much more than I dislike any other team.
Let’s clean up our own mess and then beat them both.

I've hated them since Nyjer Morgan ran his chops...didn't really like them much before but he made it real easy to dislike them even more....still can't figure out how this brewers team is that good....I mean I get what they are doing and how they play the game....but I still think they will fall apart come playoff time...
Re: I hate the Cubs
When your historical opposition passes you in success, you have to look at yourself for the reasons. Pretty simple WHY the Dubbies and Brewers are ahead of us in standings. We adopted and incorporated all their past failures and they learned from out success. The ire should be to ownership and FO
Competitive dislike is natural. IT becomes elevated when you know YOUR team helped them be better than we are.

I sports hate the players and members of the organization.
I real-life dislike cub fans to varying degrees but understand it's no difference from what other feel about Cardinals fans.
However, I truly despise the entity that is the chicago cubs with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns.

Wrigley has a smell like an old nasty men's room in a basement. I've been there twice, weren’t even Cardinal games, wearing my 1946 Musial retro shirt and nearly got into a fight after the game both times.
