I’m not clapping. I’m not angry either. Which should be the reaction from everyone. It’s not a story worthy of excessive jubilation or excessive outrage.
You literally jumped into the conversation to defend those celebrating it... and you even called it "progress" yourself.

Now, you are pretending that you didn't do that, and don't have a dog in the fight.
You know there's nuance to everything in life, right? I read that story and thought, "Huh. A female umpire. They have them in the NFL and NBA, seems like it's about time for baseball." I then went about my day. I didn't throw a parade or consider it a monumental milestone. I also didn't consider it a harbinger of doom and a further example of the downfall of society.

Ask yourself: why does a female umpire make you so angry?

At some point the arbitrary 8% would become a very well-functioning group.
What if they just brought up the next best person when an opening
either by production or other reasons happened?

whatever gets rid of say the 3 umps that were about always on the list of the 5 worst for about 5 years straight etc, whether that is by evaluation or whatever.

I’m not in favor of robot umps, but they are on the way. I think by and large the umpires do a good job. Sure, i get frustrated by some of the ball and strike calls, but some of the Cardinals batsmen frustrate me more than the umpires.
I disagree. Hate to have a game decided by an ump's egregiously bad call. And it happens all the time. There's no doubt a robot ump would do better. The have them in tennis, why not in baseball.
Unfortunately one bad call wrecks the count and skews the at bat. That’s one time in four at bats. Night after night. Now if it happens more often, then the mental makeup of an offensive player may be scrambled.
True. If you get a bad call early in the game you might be more inclined to expand your strike zone. Conversely pitchers get a bad call and it may force them to shrink their strike zone. An umpire can and does change the game. From the Greg Maddox "earned" the wide strikes to the non star pitchers getting squeezed it just a travesty of the game. Anything that makes the game more accurate and fair is the goal.

I agree. Nice write. As to fairness, I believe each game, not just baseball, should have a move/ counter move mentality. When you put in a rule that benefits only one side, you’ve skewed the results.

For instance- the IBB benefits the defense only. I say throw the four balls. So much could happen in four thrown balls for the offense/ steals, wild pitch, passed ball, etc. lower pitch count.

The IBB only benefits the defense. Rules like that I don’t like.

It's about time one of the women umps gets promoted to The Show . Managers will be very cautious when irate with a call to say 'F you ! to the female ump !
Why is it about time?

What kind of backwards leftist ideology does one have to think that this is progress?

Okay, thanks for sharing.
But why bravo? Just curious.
Because it is long past due, that’s why.
Because the sexist walls continue to crumble. And that’s something to celebrate.
Yes but mlb level umps are the best of the best....many never get there...it's not like you fill out an application and your a mlb ump...and obviously there are way less women who want to be baseball umpires....so the chances that a woman makes it to that level is obviously way less than a man getting to that level...don't believe it's all sexist...I mean we had a female nba ref in the 90s....
They can't explain why its "progress" or what the "good" in this move even is.

All they see is "female promoted to replace man" and the are giddy beyond the moon.

They're a F'd up group of mentally unstable cultists.

Yeah,I could see that in a purist but in reality nobody really liked watching a batter take four obvious balls. It slows the game down so I'm okay with it.

I don't know what happened in your life but you are serious disturbed. A female umpire is getting a chance in the bigs after years of paying her dues and you're [defecating] your Depends. If baseball was your focus you'd be saying "I hope she replaces CB Bucknor."

She’s been a minor-league umpire since 2017, worked the AAA title game last year, worked MLB spring training the past two years and is a crew chief in the minors this year. More than qualified.

If you have a problem with this, you’re telling on yourself.

Why is it about time?

What kind of backwards leftist ideology does one have to think that this is progress?
What kind of out-of-date, backwards-thinking right wing ideology does one have to think it isn’t progress?
What progress?

Explain how it's progress?

You know nothing about her. You have no idea if she is even competent. You only know that she is a woman, and that's the only thing you know.

Name one other umpire in the history of baseball that you celebrated getting a promotion to MLB. Oh that's right, you never have before and never will again.

But this time it's different, because she is a girl. And girl boss power... or something like that.

So yes, you are a backwards, illogical, politically compromised moron, celebrating because you've been taught to clap like a seal. And yet, you can't even explain why.
Explain why it ISN’T progress.

You know nothing about her. You have no idea if she ISN’T competent. You know only that she is a woman, and that’s the only thing you know.

Name one other umpire in the history of baseball that you were angered by getting a promotion to MLB. Oh that’s right, you never have and never will again.

But this time it’s different, because she is a woman. And women don’t belong in “men’s sports”…or something like that.

So yes, you are a backwards, out-of-touch, illogical, politically compromised relic, offended because you’ve been taught to rage like a spoiled child. And yet, you can’t even explain why.

See how that works?
