It's possible but I prefer waiting until at least sometime in his third season if he's the star we all hope he will be.
I remember too many in CT clamoring to give both Walker & Winn $100+M deals, glad that didn't happen.
I don't get trying to lump Walker and Winn together. Winn now leads the team in + bWAR for position players while Walker is at the opposite end of the scale with bWAR.
Who lumped?
I said, "I

I think if you wait much longer the extension for Winn will definitely have to be in the $100+ million range. Heck it may already be there. The game changed with the Julio Rodriguez, Fernando Tatis Jr., Bobby Witt Jr. etc. deals. The “elite” young players are in the $200-300 million range. The “good” young players are in the $100+ million range.
2024-25 fWAR leaders
26. Merrill 7.2
27. Winn 7.1
Merrill signed a 9 year deal worth $135 million guaranteed.
He had a 3.6 fWAR last year. He’s already at 3.6 this year.
Sometimes early extensions work, sometimes they doesn't:
-Ceddanne Rafaela (career: .253 .286 .412 .698): The Red Sox outfielder signed an eight-year, $50 million deal shortly after his rookie season
-Kristian Campbell (career: .223 .319 .345 .664): The Red Sox infielder signed an eight-year, $60 million deal with club options
-Brandon Pfaadt (career 5.04 ERA): The Diamondbacks pitcher signed a five-year, $45 million extension
-Ezequiel Tovar (career: .262 .293 .440 .734 and that's playing half his games at Coors!): The Rockies shortstop signed a seven-year, $63.5 million extension
-Brayan Bello (career: 4.09 ERA): The Red Sox pitcher signed a six-year, $55 million deal
-Mitch Keller (career: 4.48 ERA): The Pirates pitcher signed a five-year, $77 million extension
-Julio Rodríguez (three years following signing this deal: 269 .324 .447 .771): The Mariners outfielder signed a 13-year, $210 million extension, which could reach 18 years and $470 million with performance-based club options
