Re: pozo
I'm on the trade Crooks train, but I can see the potential in that.
Re: pozo
Pozo is a guy who is most productive with limited playing time. We saw this a lot during TLR’s time. Guys like Dunston, Paquette, Eduardo Perez, Eli Marrero, and John Mabry did better as role players (remember when the Cardinals had Dunston was after his prime). After success in limited roles, Paquette and Perez got nice UFA deals and flopped in full time roles. If you look at Pozo’s career minor and MLB numbers, they’re not great.

I think we see this in 2026.

Good point
Re: pozo
Lots of times they upload that info at draft and then if they arent a high profile player. They fail to update a lot of the profiles cuz theres so many players in majors and minkrs to keep track of
Re: pozo
I agree that pozo might excel better as a role player, as he has done more amazing coming off bench as pinch hitter, but the underlined statement is not true and im guessing you were just making a generalized statement and didnt look at any research about pozo.Red7 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 20:37 pm Pozo is a guy who is most productive with limited playing time. Pozo has hit above .300 at every single year in the minors since 2016 excelt for 1. he just wasnt given opportunities in majors. The only previous chance he was given in majors was was in 2019 and he had an unimpressive. 690 ops but hit .284 and those numbers arent terrible for a catcher. He doesnt have a ton of power but he has always had great contact skills across the mi ors and while his strikeout rates are up a bit from his miniscule amount in the minos- 12.2% and 13% his 2 seasons in majors are still low.
Im not saying pozo would have similar success full time but theres no basis that his career stats havent been good. He always hit for avg in minors- just wasnt given chance in majors- either because of defense ir more likely his personal bagge incident

I'm on the "Trade Pozo at his highest value" train.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 18:11 pmI'm on the trade Crooks train, but I can see the potential in that.
He seems like a good teamate. Always competes. He's really showed ability as a PH late inning bat. Should be a plus add in any package for a good SP prospect.
But Crooks and Bernal are coming soon. Rodriguez is following up if he can stick at catcher. Pozo was just holding the chair for who's next up. If Herrera stayed healthy and showed better catcher defense, nobody knows who Pozo is.
But his legend continues to grow. The Cardinals should cash in on it. If you argue that Crooks or Bernal would get a better SP, I'm in on that too.

Re: pozo
That Crooks would get a better return is my argument. His trade value is about 4 times higher than Pozo's. He could be packaged with Nootbaar, or someone else for a meaningful return. I like Crooks, and if he were all we had I would be happy with him, but Bernal is better defensively, hits for more power, is a switch hitter, and is younger, so... I would feel like we were in a very good spot if we had Bernal and Pozo doing the catching in St. Louis for the forseeable future.RunSup wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 11:13 amI'm on the "Trade Pozo at his highest value" train.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 18:11 pmI'm on the trade Crooks train, but I can see the potential in that.
