Re: Riley O'Brien
There’s never been a question about O’Brien’s stuff. His command has been his problem. When you have wicked movement like his, command can be difficult. He might be one of those guys where the target is right down the middle and let the movement do the rest.

Re: Riley O'Brien
I have not seen him pitch very much, but I have to say, the movement on some of his pitches was really stellar.

Kid has some stuff. Let's see how does in this closer role.
Re: Riley O'Brien
That is what makes him extra tough for hitters . His misses can be anywhere so they don't 'dig in ' at the plate for they may have to jump out of the way in a split second. lol
Know what you mean though .
Re: Riley O'Brien
He said last year he had the butterflies but calmer this year. That's a good sign. Not every good reliever can handle the game on the line pressure situation .redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 22:19 pm Kid has some stuff. Let's see how does in this closer role.

Re: Riley O'Brien
Unfortunately the same was said of Martinez.
Re: Riley O'Brien
Pedro? Actually, they DID say that about Pedro. You know who else? Mariano Rivera. Now, I’m not saying O’Brien is either one of those guys, but it’s real. If you’re talking about Carlos, well, the dude had issues beyond command. If he were white, he’d been diagnosed with ADHD and on Adderol before you could say ADHD. Instead, his lack of focus and discipline were chalked up to cultural rather than mental conditions.

I hate that people remember isringhausen this way. From 2002-2005 izzy was actually a good closer who didnt have the problem of putting too many on with whips from 0.98- 1.19 each of the 4 years. He was dominant.DwaininAztec wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 20:44 pmStrategically wild. Remember Jason Isringhausen. Never a dull outing.
In 2006 his whip skyrocketed and he got name never easy ozzy because he was struggling to get by as he was putching injuted most the season(and eventually went on injured ljst with looper then wainright takjng over)
2007 he went back to being dominant with 1.071 whip.
The in 2008 he had rough year again at first putting too many runners on then later failing to do job.
But the majority of his cardinals career izzy wasnt actually wild yet people remember his tenure by his bad years

Re: Riley O'Brien
Martinez was a very good pitcher until injuries derailed him and the cardinals didn’t mishandle his development
