Since they had 11 MLB caliber relievers, they really didn't lose much from their ability to win.

That's why it would have been such a huge mistake not to trade away Helsley, Maton, and Matz. It really didn't blow up their miniscule chance of getting back into the race. We are out of the race because our starting pitching, hitting, and fielding are not near playoff caliber. The relievers can't carry this team into the playoffs alone.

Should have traded Fedde much sooner since they had McGreevy ready to go. Waited until he was worthless and he to be paid to leave.
Should have traded Helsley sooner, too. His value was not going up and we had the depth to replace him. In fact, we could have re-invested his $8.2M salary into a another good veteran FA reliever and sold that guy at the deadline, too.

Sell high, not low. Sell too early, not too late.

Learn to judge talent before the good/bad results come, at least be better at it than other teams.

Good point. This team may lack prime-age, high-end talent, but they don't want for fight.

I think Ollie should get some credit there.
