Yeah, I don't think so guy.rockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 08:53 am This (84 yrs old end of August) is why I DON'T think the rebuild will take years.
Dewitt is a baseball man, loves the team.
Not sure he's ready to sell.
My hope is he gives C. Bloom the payroll he needs next season to acquire vis trade or FA the players Bloom needs to be successful sooner rather than later.
And don't worry "build internally" fans.
Unlike the former POBO (at seasons end) Bloom can walk (build a great farm system) & chew gum (build a strong major league roster) at the same time.
Dewitt doesn't want to leave this world seeing his Cardinals at the bottom of MLB.
Sure hope I'm right.
Dewitt Jr is 83. Ready to sell?

Re: Dewitt Jr is 83. Ready to sell?
yeah how can you have hope for that at this point? weird
it's pretty easy to predict this current Cards ownership group will never even get into the top 10 of payroll in the MLB the remainer of their time owning the Cardinals
that is what most likely needs to happen for the Cards to ever have a legit chance of winning the NLCS again.

Likely, but like everyone I'm sick of seeing the team sliding down to mediocrity.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 15:54 pmI hope you are right, but I think that is wishful thinking.rockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 08:53 am This (84 yrs old end of August) is why I DON'T think the rebuild will take years.

I think you are spot on about BDW’s love of the game. Mo squandered hundreds of millions on lazy signings, and BDW lost Hope. He seems to have regained focus with hiring Bloom. Plus, he’s got ten or so partners that he needs to answer to. I’m very hopeful for the long term, after a new CBA.rockondlouie wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 08:36 amLikely, but like everyone I'm sick of seeing the team sliding down to mediocrity.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 15:54 pmI hope you are right, but I think that is wishful thinking.rockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 08:53 am This (84 yrs old end of August) is why I DON'T think the rebuild will take years.

What ever happened to BDW’s “This will never happen in Stl. Louis philosophy”……
It’s been happening and happening…..and it doesn’t seem like anyone cares.

oh there is going to be a new CBA. MLB is very likely headed for a strike as many of the owners finally understand and realize this isn't sustainable.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 09:11 amI think you are spot on about BDW’s love of the game. I once added up Mo's squandered payroll money (poor free agent signings + bad extensions) and it came to over $500,000,000!BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 09:11 amI think you are spot on about BDW’s love of the game. Spot on, Bill does seem to be going back to the model he used when he brought in J. Luhnow.

My first reaction is 84 doesn't seem that old, Ted Lerner went til he was 98. So perhaps the move isn't necessarily imminent.

Re: Dewitt Jr is 83. Ready to sell?
Mo was clearly in over his head as POBO. After TLR, Albert and Luhnow all left after the 2011 World Series win, the Cards boat sprang a leak. Mo flailed about, fell in love with the wrong players, stubbornly held on to too many, signed on for way too many sentimental farewell tours and lost the confidence of BDW and the fans. It’s a sad story, really. George Kissell, Red, Gibby and Lou are all gone now. It’s time to start a new era of Cards greatness, built from the ground up.rockondlouie wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 10:16 amI once added up Mo's squandered payroll money (poor free agent signings + bad extensions) and it came to over $500,000,000!BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 09:11 amI think you are spot on about BDW’s love of the game. He rode what Walt left him + TLR/Dunc' + Albert & Company.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑07 Aug 2025 10:47 amMo was clearly in over his head as POBO. Spot on, Bill does seem to be going back to the model he used when he brought in J. Luhnow.
Early on he was still following Walt's playbook (re: bringing in L. Berkman, Carlos Beltran) and had success.
Once TLR/Dunc' retired and players got older, the Peter Principle kicked in and Mo flopped.

Georgia ... I used to call her the Marge Schott of footballCardinals1964 wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 23:37 pm This thought crossed my mind. It’s not based on any news I heard. Just a thought. Dewitt is 83. Nobody lives forever. Are the Cardinals intentionally cutting payroll to prepare for a sale? With inheritance tax the way they are could his children afford to keep the team?
Will it be like the Rams with Georgia Frontier when she passed away?
I’m just throwing this out there. Can his kids afford to keep the team? It’s easier to sell a team if you don’t have players under multi year multimillion dollar contracts. I’ve seen it before.
