Just a difference of perspective, Goldfan. I take it day by day. Each game is an opportunity to win, at least for that day. Was very happy to beat the Dodgers last night. You and Red can be as negative as you want, but Gray pitched beautifully and it was a sweet win. Will be cheering for them to win again tonight.Goldfan wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 13:12 pmYAY, I love how this team has no Star Players, a no name manager, hasn’t won a playoff game in who knows how long….CHEER……won’t be in playoffs 3rd yr running…..has no real plan to get back to being competitive any time soon, YAY GO TEAM……..owner won’t spend on talent, doesn’t appear engaged with plight of team or fans…..HOORAY, just sold off for 3rd trade deadline in a row, YUTES who were supposed to shine this season are dudsCranny wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 13:06 pmAgain, it’s weird how a long, long time Cardinal fan like Red keeps ripping his own team. There isn't anyone here who's not happy they won last night. The difference is that a game or two doesn't forgive all that's happened the last few years.Cranny wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 13:19 pmJust a difference of perspective, Goldfan. I take it day by day. That's about as ignorant a post as I've seen on CT. We are still trying to unwind from a humongous contract with Arenado. in 2022 we had the #1 and #3 MVP in the NL. They were still with us last year but their contracts hung over our heads like a couple albatrosses.Goldfan wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 13:12 pmYAY, I love how this team has no Star Players, a no name manager, hasn’t won a playoff game in who knows how long….CHEER……won’t be in playoffs 3rd yr running…..has no real plan to get back to being competitive any time soon, YAY GO TEAM……..owner won’t spend on talent, doesn’t appear engaged with plight of team or fans…..HOORAY, just sold off for 3rd trade deadline in a row, YUTES who were supposed to shine this season are dudsCranny wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 13:06 pmAgain, it’s weird how a long, long time Cardinal fan like Red keeps ripping his own team. We are paying Sonny Gray $35M this year to pitch.
I get DeWitt wondering how we got into the '23 mess and how to avoid it going forward. The biggest shame of having a couple downyears is having to put up with malcontents who can't manage disappointment. I see the light in the tunnel. By the time you do, you should change your CT name.

It's not "perspective", it's a long time emotional investment in the team.
People are fans and historically the team has been much better and better in being put together.
For those fans it's frustrating when it's been a major part of your involvement many months of the year.
That's what drives most of the comments here criticizing the present state of the ballclub.
There's a sense of pride being a Cardinal fan and people feel it's being in a word [shirt] on by the current management.

Re: We are watching a AAA team
What you say is true. And yet, the teams in the 70's and 90's were anything but winners year in and year out. There were times when Kissel held the whole thing together with a band aid and a lot of love. Key folks have gotten old and Mo was never the thread that kept the organization special. Mo oversaw the dissolution of a great organization by dissolving the development operations and shoveling the money to players who would eventually get old.11WSChamps wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 13:47 pm It's not "perspective", it's a long time emotional investment in the team.

Owners have come and gone as have GM's and POBOs... Maybe my enthusiasm for the change afoot is too generous. Maybe Chaim will misstep. I'm too old to be willing to change horses; so will die a Cardinal fan. I can only hope with a smile on my face.
I cling to the development process going on in the minors. I've been very frustrated at the diminutive effort to recruit Internationally, but am encouraged lately. Only time will tell. I only know that screaming "what have you done for me lately?" every five minutes won't help.

It’s one of the reasons I follow the minor leaguers. Always some good stories on the various levels.
Wetherholt slashing .344/.425/.754/1.279 in his short time at Memphis. Or Church slashing
.341/.410/.526/.936 at Memphis.
And if the Cardinals win again in L.A. over the next 2 days, I’ll take pleasure in that no matter what’s happened the last 2 years (after the 90+ win years prior to that).

But seriously, for OldRed's sake, the home town team needs to find more 13th round draft picks who go on to become one of the greatest players in MLB history. And 4th round picks who become one of the greatest catchers of all time. And bring in a broken down 27 year old pitcher who had a 5.28 ERA for the Blue Jays, who became one of the greatest Cardinal pitchers in their storied history. Let's go find those type of guys. Right Red?
YAY……GIVE ME SOME MORE……I CAN’T TAKE ALL THIS WINNING!!!!! CHEER
We are paying Sonny Gray $35M this year to pitch.
I get DeWitt wondering how we got into the '23 mess and how to avoid it going forward. The biggest shame of having a couple downyears is having to put up with malcontents who can't manage disappointment. I see the light in the tunnel. By the time you do, you should change your CT name.DeWitt is in his 80's and handles disappointment differently than he has in the past. If he still likes Mo and wants to let him down gently, so be it. The change is evident.
Chaim has been offered a generous look at the organization with Mo on the hook and will no doubt come out firing next year. If you can't already see his impact, you aren't paying much attention.
I've suffered the down years throughout my life and always remained a Cardinal fan. Can't speak for others.
