The Dodgers' offense has been terrible of late -- as in dead last in MLB while Muncy was injured. Betts is just plain awful. And Ohtani has been racking up the strikeouts.
It's not like the Cards are scoring multiple runs either.
Very good D won the game.
Outstanding long run and diving catch by Nootbaar was key play, Thr ball was in fair territory too.

Should we lock everybody up long term or for 5 years at a minimum?
We beat the defending Champs in a game. We must be better than them!!!
An Inane Thread if there ever was one.
It’s an interesting thread, because a long time Cardinal fan has called out our players as “AAA players”. Even those youngish players who deserved to be called up from AAA and are in the process of learning what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
And it took a veteran like Gray to pitch a gem. Way too many AAA players on this team. Only a blind or dumb person couldn't see this. Not saying you are one but get a grip on what has happened the last three years and how long it will be before this a REAL competitive team that may challenge for a Division Championship.

I get it, Red. As a long standing Cardinal fan you relish in bashing your own home team. You’ve been doing it now for years. Kinda weird, really.

Not bashing, being honest on what I'm see and how they are playing. I just not a cheerleader like you.

Of course you are bashing Red. You don’t like the way this team is assembled and how it plays. You lash out in frustration. Nothing wrong with that. We saw similar in the 70’s and the 90’s. But, they aren’t AAA; they just aren’t a playoff team. And, of course, we need a more solid core. We need quality pitching.
I don’t know how long it will take to iron the problems out, but, I’m willing to admit I see better materializing. There’s pitching on the farm. There’s investment in the FO and money being accumulated for International players. We’ll get there, just maybe not in your lifetime.
Everyone on the internet said the Blues had no real talent, that they were overmatched and could never compete with the "real" teams, that the retool was a failure and they should just blow it up and start over. Blues went on longest winning-streak in franchise history once they got a real, competent coach with a real, competent strategy, and nearly won a playoff round against the best regular-season team.
The internet said the Cardinals 2015 team had no "real" talent. They went on to win 100 games.
You don't play half a season at 9 games over .500 with a near +100 run differential, MLB-best defense, a top-10 offense, bullpen, and top half of the league starting pitching if you have no talent. There is talent here. What they have is 0 leadership and apparently 0 competence and no willingness to take on risk in the FO.
Obviously, they're not winning anything this season but I don't think it's as hopeless as many think in the longterm. They definitely need starting pitching and JJ, Gorman, JWalk to all be at LEAST servicable starters as well but I think they could compete in 27.
No chance for next year because this cheap*ss ownership won't take any kind of risk--as well know--with an expiring CBA.

They've actually scored six (6) fewer runs than the Cardinals in the last 30 days!
How can that offense be last in MLB during that time frame?

The Cardinals have played well vs the Dodgers. Record is now 3-1 vs LA, so even if they lose these next two, they'll still have a .500 record head to head vs the World Champions. Is it meaningful? Not really, what matters more is the Cardinals' record vs bad teams like Colorado(1-2), Miami(1-2), Atlanta(2-4),Pittsburgh(4-5), and the Angels(1-2).

What matters is that we get busy and start putting a rotation together that the Cardinals can win with. That we get a few more position players forward and a little more power in place to win consistently. I think it happens in a couple years.

Sorry the sarcasm of "AAA team" is so far fetched, it lacks the punch you are trying to deliver. The difference between AAA baseball and MLB is ginormous; one could say the Cardinals are an average to slightly below average MLB team.
The rub is: with the tradition and $$$$ they possess, they should be a better MLB organization.
So OldRed spent a couple/few pages trying to support a sarcastic argument?
I don’t know that he was being sarcastic, he might be serious.

Mr. Red - I, like you, are a die-hard Cards fan. I get it - Watching the decline of this organization has been tuff. My argument is: calling the Cardinals a AAA team is an extreme over exaggeration of their level of play. The Cardinals are an average to below average MLB team. The difference between the levels of MLB and AAA is very large. If the Cardinal talent level equated to that of a AAA team, we would have been fortunate to win 20 games this year. We have some nice pieces, but not enough of them, and some of them are talented pieces, but not the right pieces.
We are playing .500 baseball at the MLB level. Not what you and I want, because we believe in the strong Cardinal tradition, but we are in no way a AAA level team.
Now if you want to go down the rabbit hole of poor roster management - I'll carry your flag!!!!
