When does the re-build start?
The Cardinals have won 210 games and lost 227 in the last three years. When does the rebuild start and how long will it last?

Re: When does the re-build start?
Should have started at the trade deadline in 2023, but we can't change the past. And we don't know for sure that they're going to do a rebuild this year either. They seemed to waffle on their plans earlier in the year when we were winning games.
Trading some soon to be free agent relievers at the deadline isn't enough for me to change my mind that it's a full rebuild. However, given Katie Woo's reporting on this, it seems like they are committing to a full one. Or at least as full of one as they can, since Gray, Arenado, and Contreras have full NTCs.
That being said, it's impossible to fully answer your question. I'd guess we can say the rebuild started at the deadline, since that's when they traded some players. Other than that, we'll have to see in the offseason. As to how long it lasts, how can anyone answer that? Historically, I think that they've taken 3-5 years for teams like Philly, Houston, and Atlanta. Maybe we get lucky since Bloom had a headstart with the team in 2024 and was able to have his team in place this year before taking over next year.

Re: When does the re-build start?
This off-season. I look for Bloom to strip it down quite a bit, and trade most of the redundancies.
Re: When does the re-build start?
A lot of speculation that after Mo-ran leaves, everything will get better...but this will take some time to fix...the roster is a mess...fans are (upset)...hopefully, someone will post soon that you should start following the minors...and all the younger players are potential HOF ers!

The rebuild will take 3-5 years…
That’s if bloom has the authority he needs

Re: When does the re-build start?
Cardinals have no clue what they're doing ...team need to be sold
Re: When does the re-build start?
I'd say High Em will be run out on a rail by 2030

My guess is Bloom will start taking the actions he's been taught to take as soon as the season ends.

Re: When does the re-build start?
STL could be a legitimate contender in 2027 with the right moves. But it will be massive upheaval and another losing season in 2026 to get there. The only contract of significance they have left in 2027 is Contreras at $18.5 mil.
2026. Sign multiple dumpster dive end of the FA season veterans to find a few more trade chips for the allstar break. Bring up Weatherholt and the best of the group of catchers to find the new regular. Bring up and break in the best of the pitching crop.
2027. Regulars left include Contreras, Donovan, Noot, Scott III, Winn, JJ W, Herrera, Saggesse, Walker, Gorman. Out of this group and the catchers crop we SHOULD have at least 8 guys worthy of being regulars at some position. Note unless they do something stupid in 2026 they will have a team salary well below $100 at this point. Here is how they vault into contention.
Sign Acuna. Not saying ATL won't outbid or he will come but this is the biggest prize in the FA market that year and is the perfect fit for what STL needs. If it takes $40 mil for 10 years so be it.
Sign two solid #3 starting pitchers. Hopefully internally they have stumbled onto a few more #2-3 types. This part is harder to predict. It will cost probably $40 mil for both of them but shouldn't be more than 2-4 years.
Team is now locked in:
C - Bernal/Crooks/Rodriguez ??
1B - Contreras/Herrera
2B - Donovan/Weatherholt
SS - Winn/Saggesse
3B - Gorman/Weatherholt
OF - Acuna, Noot, Walker, Scott
P - too hard to predict
Assuming a few of the kids perform that would be a solid lineup and defense.
But it demands making the right moves AND spending upwards of $180 mil salary. No clue if they will do it.

Re: When does the re-build start?
Whatever you want to call it....rebuild? reset?
whatever? ....I think it normally is associated with moving away from older veteran players and focusing on younger cost controlled players?
It seems like that is already in motion?
Fedde, Matz, Maton, Helsley already moved!
The older vets left(Miles, Arenado, Gray, WC) all have NTC’s!
Obviously they’ve tried to move Arenado and I’d be shocked if they weren’t heavily trying to move Mikolas.
Who knows with Gray and WC??
They’ve made moves in the FO and I’m hoping Bloom can revitalize the farm system.
That is supposed to be his strength.
The Cards need much more from the farm.
They can’t compete with the big boys in revenue and buying high priced FA’s.
JJ last year and Doyle this year seems to be a good start.

As soon as Johnny bow ties gets his idiotic, lazy (donkey) out of the way. And the DeWitts find their checkbook and balls.
Re: When does the re-build start?
when you get new owners. nothing will ever improve to where it needs to be until this happens
the sooner all fans media pundits and so on realizes this the better
