Can JJ be our George Brett

Or maybe he's our Chipper Jones, and plays 3B and OF.
Or maybe he's our Utley and plays 2B.
Or maybe he's our Cal Ripken and Winn moves to CF.
Or maybe he's our Ben Grieve and is out of baseball at 30 years old.

No. The law of averages says no such thingRunSup wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 07:12 amThe Law of Averages? You mean the Gamblers Fallacy? JJ at 2B. JJ at 3B. Either is a plus. We have not seen JJ's arm yet.
Donovan can play 3B too. Or get traded for one.
Try Herrera at 3B. Or Walker? Law of Averages says at least one of dese bums will be decent.

Does JJ fly with a cape or just free style. So far ahead of ourselves on this one it’s ridiculous.

Interesting comp SBD. I never thought of Brett, but I can see it. Also, Brett was drafted and came up as a SS before moving to 3B in AAA/MLB.
If JJW can sniff Brett's career, we are walking in high cotton.

Good morning, Sir!
But sir, (sorry, just had to use that play on your screen name) respectfully, I must take issue with your comment about Mo being under owners constraints. It’s well chronicled that the Cards payroll tended to be in the 5th to 10th highest spot during most of the 2010 decade. That’s not too bad for a mid-to-low market team. I think more of the blame goes to Mo for simply making a lot of bad trades and contract extensions.
Regarding the decline of our minor league program, I will admit that I don’t know if that’s on Mo or DeWitt, so you may have a point there.
Have a good one…

We are. That’s true. And it will be years before we can even validate.
Not the intent however. Which is, as a legend, if our new guy can just touch that band of excellence, then we have covered well third base after another legend in Nado.

By the numbers for payroll, you are correct and I am wrong.
I just do not know how much “Jerry Jones” type of intrusion ownership made in urging/requiring him to make certain deals, like Leake, Fowler, Miller, etc, then letting him bear the blame or take any credit. Mebbe I’m looking for something that’s not there. It just seems that ownership bears a lot of the blame for where their product is, both deal- and development-wise. I can only hope that Bloom gets a free hand and a top-ten payroll or I will be looking forward to football all year ‘round.

Law of Averages is mostly a colloquialism and statistical fallacy that is misapplied. I am not an Actuary. You probably are. I am just an engineer and not Captain America. I've gotta go to work and can't do this all day. BUT, ... we are headed into Yadier Molina Catcher Syndrome.
None of these guys are Nolan Arenado nor Scott Rolen. To quote Popeye, they "ams what they am." Just give them some spinach-k and see what happens.
PS. When was the last time the Cardinals developed a quality home-grown third baseman. My failing memory goes all the way back to Terry Pendleton. Would you be happy if JJ turned into Todd Zeile? He did have a 19 WAR career.
The Cardinals may just not be good at drafting and developing all star 3B.

Big advocate to moving him to third base. Nado will be gone in off season, and JJ is too talented for second, plus a huge black hole comes open at third. All reasons why he plays there.
To Brett-
13 x AS
3 x SS
3 x Batting title
MVP
GG
HOF
.305
317 HR
3154 hits
It’s been since Rolen in my opinion as to a stud third baseman. It’s been awhile since there was a Brett type third baseman.
What comes around goes around. That works both ways.
Finally, if JJ sniffs Brett’s career, we are all n good shape/
