Can JJ be our George Brett

Post by sikeston bulldog2 »

Good morning.

Big advocate to moving him to third base. Nado will be gone in off season, and JJ is too talented for second, plus a huge black hole comes open at third. All reasons why he plays there.

To Brett-
13 x AS
3 x SS
3 x Batting title
MVP
GG
HOF
.305
317 HR
3154 hits

It’s been since Rolen in my opinion as to a stud third baseman. It’s been awhile since there was a Brett type third baseman.

What comes around goes around. That works both ways.

Finally, if JJ sniffs Brett’s career, we are all n good shape/

As a board, we are surely hanging a ton of hopium on this kid. May he not be The Great Hyped Hope. Not aimed at you, Dawg.
I, too, hope he can play 3B. Gorman, sss, is sketchy there and, frankly, Donnieboy doesn’t have the requisite power.

Yes we are. I just jumped on for fun. Just like we are putting a lot of hype on Bloom.

Bloom or bust.

Good analogy on Bloom, who, like Mo, is hostage to ownership’s dictates. Will we ever know the constraints under which Mo worked? Maybe watch what Bloom does for a “through the glass darkly,” imperfect look?

Exactly. Law of averages say we are due. Can’t think badly here. Gotta hope for an offensive decent defensive player. One hole filled.

And I had Walker as the next Clemente. But that’s my mental issue.

That’s strong. You said baseball, not Cardinals: strong.

Yea super amount of hype, maybe too much so early, but like in gambling, life, fishing, and snow storms, sooner or later, you hit the big one.

He can play all over the infield.
He hits a ton.
I'm super pumped to see what he does.
I have higher hopes than most, but that's okay too.

Yea that’s me. I’m under the - hope it’s our turn- tent reference a great player. Not Albert level, as to me that’s top five in baseball, but Pendleton Oberkfel or Rolen would work.

There is a writer for one of the prospect publications a while back, I'm wanting to say Baseball America, but I can't remember. Anyway, he was saying he thought JJ would eventually end up at third base and that he would develop enough power to wear his bat would play pretty well there. He said he thought he has the ability to be a 35 HR guy.

Now I think those are pretty lofty expectations to put on a kid who already has some pretty lofty expectations, but he'(poop) 10 of his 13 home runs this year over the last 2 months, so the power is starting to show. I don't think we need him to hit 35 home runs, but a lead off guy who will hit for average, get on base, run a little bit, and hit 20 to 25 home runs is pretty (bleep) valuable.

And everything he's done this year is showing that he can be that guy. And I don't want to jinx him, but I know people have the tendency to compare him to some of our prospects who never reach their potential, but I think he's different. He was already basically a complete player when he was drafted. Sure they were probably some things he needed to work on when he got to the miners, but he doesn't really appear to be doing anything different than he did in college.

One of the first things the Cardinals need to do is get a slugger in the lineup so Wetherholt doesn't feel the need to have to be the offensive belwhether on the team as a rookie.

Whether he would admit or not he would be feeling the pressure if he were the main focus of the offense.

Get that anchor and let the kid grow into the leadership role.

That should be job one.

Wetherholt is already demonstrating his great talents at Memphis, and it appears he is on the fast track to St. Louis. He can play anywhere on the infield the Cardinals need him. The George Brett comp is interesting, and folks should remember that Brett only hit 30 HR once in his 20 year MLB career. He was more like a 20-25 HR guy, but he also had 665 doubles which is #7 all time, and he did steal over 200 bases. If JJ performs like that for the Cardinals, no one should be disappointed.

The Law of Averages? You mean the Gamblers Fallacy? Maybe you should avoid Vegas, Bulldog.

JJ at 2B. JJ at 3B. Either is a plus. We have not seen JJ's arm yet.

Donovan can play 3B too. Or get traded for one.

Try Herrera at 3B. Or Walker? Law of Averages says at least one of dese bums will be decent.

Nolan Arenado called to ask, "How do you like me now?!?"

Even a gambler wins sometimes according to his standards. Law of averages, overdue, call it what it is, luck even. I just think we a due a winner after many misses.

Sure. There's something to a probabilistic distribution. Keep throwing spaghetti at the wall and one is bound to stick.

But no, we are not due for a hall of fame 3B. Heck we just had one. And another one before him. So that blows your probability theory. We aren't really due for one.

I will put a 25 cent bet down that JJ will not be an All Star at 3B. If that eggs him on, great. I am happy to pay off.
