With bases loaded and lefty batter at the plate , Burly has to play closer to the 1st base line. If a bouncer gets by you down the foul line that is going to clear all the bases . If you cheat towards the line a step or two to cut off those, a ball hit a step to the other side of you is OK as that is most likely a single and the ball hit more to Walker. I have seen Burly play too wide at 1st base before with lefty hitters at the plate and runners in scoring position. I know he has DH a lot and played OF but he is not a natural 1st baseman. Keith Hernandez cut down those shots right down the foul line .

can we get rid of the 'slug baby slug' mentality and get back to making contact, running the bases, pitching and good defense??

it is a player issue.. but it's also a culture/team mentality issue

On the positive side JJ played 3rd today - 3-5 Hr & 3 RBI - now hitting 344 - sign of things to come at the MLB level?

Most pathetic hitting team in Cards history. 1 hit, 15 strikeouts! These guys should be embarrassed.
