Burleson and Donovan would NOT have brought the Cardinals proven high end talent in a trade, and even though Mo is inept, he was correct when he stated that they were not going to trade these players unless they were "blown away" with a return,Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 22:24 pmNo I’m saying burly and Donovan are good complimentary players on a good team but they are not the great players a team can build around some make them out to be with their talent and skill set a lot of good teams wanted them and they could have got high end talent for them but the cardinals are dumb enough to think they are players they should build the team around. Right now they are complimentary on a bad team which helps no one
It’s a good thing we didn’t trade any of these amazing hitters …

I was fully in favor of trading anyone. But even as you rephrased it, it means you think we could have traded mediocre players for a very good one - and how often does that happen? Did you see any trades that fit this bill?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 22:24 pmNo I’m saying burly and Donovan are good complimentary players on a good team but they are not the great players a team can build around some make them out to be with their talent and skill set a lot of good teams wanted them and they could have got high end talent for them but the cardinals are dumb enough to think they are players they should build the team around. And again, they have said they'd let Bloom decide this in the offseason, so it's not a fait accompli.
It's not as bad as Melville - "trade lousy O'Neill (or Noot) for a quality young starting pitcher." It's soooo dumb.

Well said, Donavan is a good player but I believe he is slightly overrated. I also think he is a good defensive player at 2nd base but not a great one Carey would want you to believe.

The only bright spot is Mo wasn't the guy who dealt away players now who might actually bring a good return for C. Bloom this winter!

I know some people think fans b*tch too much about Mo, but literally he is earning 5M a year to produce a good product, so you know he needs to deal.
Mo never fully committed to anything this year. They told us this was a reset year and they never really embraced a reset. It was more like like pricey FAs walk and do almost nothing.
Maton was a getting something for nothing move when they flipped him. Maybe they don't pan out, maybe they do, but he got something.
Calling it a reset and holding onto Fedde's contract was a foolish move. While few predicted his disastrous regression, most understood he had a legitimate risk of regression. In other words, why risk it?

After 2021 O’Neill could easily have been traded for a young starting pitcher.ClassicO wrote: ↑02 Aug 2025 09:36 amI was fully in favor of trading anyone. But the resident idiot-in-charge was far too smart to make that move.
