If by exciting the fanbase now, you mean the next 60 days then, no there is nothing they can do. If you mean before next opening day, then yes, there is much they can do.
1) Have Chaim Bloom deliver the post season press conference. Mo just makes people mad when he speaks and no one wants to hear what he has to say anymore. Stop making people mad when it is avoidable. These other people just sound better when they speak.
2) At the press conference don't say anything about payroll going forward that isn't true. Under-promise and over-deliver on offseason plans.
3) Fair, or not, replace the manager. If they want to give Cardinals fans something to get excited about, hire Albert, or Skip.
4) Take meaningful steps in the offseason to fix the clunky roster. Fans will recognize the competence in this right away.
5) Stop implying that fans are not doing their part to support the team. Show some contrition and competence- fans will respond well to that.
6) Fix the TV deal. It feels like the team is hiding behind this to torpedo payroll.
These things, taken together, will increase attendance even without increasing payroll. If they were to make some sort of commitment to a larger payroll and follow through, the attendance would be even better.
Good post and pretty much agree with everything except # 3.
Replace the manager but please,
Bring in a manager with no ties to the Cardinals.
Skip is the only logical manager with Cardinal ties that I would be good with. Yeah, he's a native son, but he's also been around. That's an important distinction.
But, yeah, under-promise and over deliver. I like that. What was it ...'23?...when we were told that payroll would increase? It did. But only by a negligible amount. That riled a lot of folks up. Rightly so.
And on those same lines. Contrition. Say it again. At this point, I understand if we aren't looking to go deep in October next year. It is what it is. But make it ABUNDANTLY clear that once we're on the other side of this mess that we're going back to the way it was in the early 00's.
Yes, the organization can put out a release announcing that Bloom will become the POBO on specific date with Bloom press conference.
Do NOT have Mo sitting at the table. DeWitt possibly since he is the owner .
At the press conference , Bloom should announce that Rob Cerfolio , current Ast. GM - Player Development and Performance is promoted to full GM title .
Bloom should give his vision of what his plans are in the near term and long term and then have Cerfolio weigh in with his duties .
Lay it out for the fans so they are not guessing. Mo's problem was that he was so wishy washy , the fanbase never knew what the plan was for Mo himself kept changing his mind .

When asked , how long will it take . Bloom can say , ' We will work tirelessly to get this team back on a winning track. That's my goal along with Cerfolio.
And this is not a knock on Oli but after the season , Bloom should announce that the team is starting with a new voice in the clubhouse and Oli has been relieved of his duties . Bloom should thank Oli for his time there under difficult circumstances . No reflection on him as manager but that Bloom feels it's best to start brand new .
By the end of the press conference, fans need to know Yes, we know Blooom's plan for this team. He needs to give the fans the direction . Not all may like every detail but they will know what he is going to do unlike MO who kept the fans guessing .

Plenty of places for Oli to remain in the organization and keep his income flowing. Which actually he may prefer. Away from the spotlight.

I agree. I know Oli isn’t popular here, and I get it, but I genuinely believe no one could do better with this garbage roster. He probably can’t be manager next year because you have to get the Mo-stink out of the team but he’s got value to add somewhere in the system.

Don't know if Oli would be interested but one area I could see him being very effective is in the 'international scouting 'area. They guy is fluent in Spanish and he could relate quite easily to the young Latin players they are scouting in the Dominican and elsewhere . I know the Brewers have improved using the international system .. Chourio signing and this Jesus Made SS kid they have coming up . Oli could help us there .

The organization needs to do something. Anything. I hope they realize what a critical crossroads at which the franchise is standing. When the team (any team) is winning, they can ignore the game day experience/the marketing/the silly stuff that attracts the casual fan, the millennial, etc. The vast majority of us on this board don't need gimmicks and giveaways to lure us into Busch Stadium if the on-field product is adequate. It hasn't been in several years.
Mozeliak's exit and Bloom's arrival provides the hardcore and informed fans with a shot of optimism. But the organization needs much bolder measures to reinvigorate the casual fan who neither knows nor cares who is running the front office.
Maybe you have a different idea of adequate. But if you mean competitive the way the current FO means it, that's wrong. It's the 11 World titles that separates the Cardinals from the Pirates.
There's a very small and shrinking band of Pittsburg fans who think that's good enough.
Don't kid yourself: Without consistently bringing home titles, this team would be like the Royals or White Sox including attendance and TV ratings. The Cardinals have loyal fans because the team has been the most successful national league team. Stop winning titles and the fanbase shrink accordingly.

In the Short Term? No
Longer Term? Possibly, provided we internally develop a few Wainos and a Pujols or 2 or 3.
No chance at competing until the DeWitts are Gone!!!
Right. Then a new owner increases payroll to $200 million and there are only 10 teams or so spending more. The market is mid sized. Where do you think the metropolitan area ranks in the U.S.?
When the Cardinals had good teams, they drew fans from Cape, Mt. Vernon, Springfield, Ill, Paducah and other areas withing 150 miles regularly. Has very little to do with metropolitan area and you should know this.
Thank you for the lesson, Red. I had no idea they came from those places. My comment was actually more about the size of the cable area, where other teams in big markets have a huge advantage in revenue.
Wow, Cranny. Anyone who knows just a little bit about this franchise should know they draw fans from a large region.
And, if negotiated correctly, this same large region of devoted fans should translate into profitable cable and other media forms of distribution. My relatives in rural Missouri love the Cards and watch them all the time.
Didn’t the Cards used to have one of the more-lucrative TV contracts in MLB due to their good regional support?
I don’t believe even with regional support, the Cardinals cable contract is anywhere close to the
Mets, Dodgers, Yankees, etc. contracts.
That sure is true..big time. Cards in 2024 got $73M tv
While LAD back in 2022 made $199 million
Huge differences in markets.
