Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
Per this article from Kiley McDaniel from ESPN. He likes his "rare combination of plus raw power and plus bat control" and seems to think that he has the arm strength to stick at 3B, but thinks probably 2B is his most likely position.
He also put Blaze Jordan at #17 on the list. Interestingly, he says that he doesn't lift the ball as much as he should, which kinda sounds like our own Jordan Walker, if I'm understanding him.
He ranks Nate Dohm #38, Skylar Hales #54, Mason Molina #71, and Frank Elissalt #81.

Re: Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
Nice. That’s a good write up on Baez. He makes a lot of sense really for the organization. Possibility for 3B down the line.
Re: Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
Another ranking on Baez according the Bernie M. on his podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U9lEpROnTE
he cites Baseball America ranking Baez as 10th of 94 prospects traded yesterday .
Either one is very good and why some analysts gave the Cardinals high reviews on the Helsley deal.

Re: Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
Thanks. Good stuff.
Baseball America did this as well. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories ... -deadline/
They have Baez #10 vs #4 (they had him as the Mets #6)
Dohm - #39 (close to #38)
Blaze - #42 (quite different than #17!)
Frank Elissalt - #62
Oddly, they don't include Hales or Molina even in lower categories, "worth a flier" and "role players."
This was interesting on Baez (after glowing remarks about bat speed, etc.) - "his hands and arm grade as plus, but he’s slow-footed and not rangy, making third base or second base good landing spots" and "Baez is the Mets’ top helium prospect. They rave about his attitude and work ethic."

Re: Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
That's interesting and hopefully true but I thought one of the criticisms I heard yesterday was he showed up this spring out of shape. May have misunderstood that. Sounds like a decent prospect.ClassicO wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 15:08 pm Thanks. Good stuff.

Really? Because Keith Law all but said he had a P[ositively] O[bnoxious] S[impleton] attitude. Said he doesn’t play hard on either side of the ball and showed up out of shape this season.ClassicO wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 15:08 pm Thanks. Good stuff.

Re: Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
Yea, I read a few things today about Baez and a few of them mentioned his work ethic, but I swore I read something opposite of that yesterday. Must have been the Keith Law thing. Who knows?
Re: Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
Baez, at 20, rated higher than Mick Abel. Wow !Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 14:49 pm Per this article from Kiley McDaniel from ESPN. The highest rated prospect on the list is 18. Age has little to do with rankings.Shady wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 16:06 pmBaez, at 20, rated higher than Mick Abel. buLLchit. It's very impressive to be rated that highly as a 20 year-old.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 16:11 pmThe highest rated prospect on the list is 18. You dingdongs are getting more useless by the day. And more and more respectful posters are expressing their displeasure in those worthless tactics.3dender wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 16:13 pmShhh he's just blowing up his brand new doll.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 16:11 pmThe highest rated prospect on the list is 18. "He is pretty pull-oriented with a flatter swing plane -- so he doesn't always lift the ball as much as he should..."
Get ready for the Cards to ruin his swing like they did Walker.

wow, Twins have 3 of the top 10 on that list.
might make Twins fans feel a little better about yesterday's fiasco
Re: Baez Ranked #4 of 97 Prospects Who Were Traded
Let's put those Twins top picks in context: It's 30% -- but they traded almost 40% of their 26-man roster (10), including the top reliever and two very good set-up men, plus Correa, Castro, and Bader.82birds wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 16:49 pmthx for the link RD.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 14:49 pm Per this article from Kiley McDaniel from ESPN.
