Maybe you missed 101s report of Goold saying it will be a "quiet" off season.

So, I'm going to guess some people think that most of the players on the current team suck, right? And I'm guessing some people also think that most of the players that we just traded for suck, right And then I have to also guess that some people think most of our prospects suck, right?

If that's the case, then why wouldnt it be a quiet off-season? Who would we have on our MLB team to trade that other teams would want? What prospects are we going to be able to give up to other teams to acquire good players? I don't see how it would really be much of an off-season if that's the case.

You have always been such an (donkey) over the many years. But anyhow, they are clearing 3 starting pitchers contracts, they pick up a number 2 starter, two relievers to replace Maton and RH , and they have can be in the mix next year. A number 2 starter is not "quiet". They clearly have the money but are more interested in just being the new Pirates. The reset , would have been resetting Mo's bad contracts, but they are just pocketing them, not getting the pieces they need. Seems they never talked to Maton about the cost of an extension, ...more pirates?

As I’ve said this organization has become like the Pirates. They no longer care about competing at the major league level. It would cost to much, given they have failed for to many years to rework the roster. None of those guys are someone you can build around. They could be fillers but you have to some quality major leaguers, and some top line pitchers. They don’t have a lead off hitter who is consistent, they sure don’t have a 3 and four type batter. And the pitching staff is a complete disaster. The will not compete for years with current ownership.

Why wouldnt bednar receive better?
Bednar is having a better season than helsley and he has another arb year of control.

We should have traded helsley in offseason when he came off a career year. He hasnt been as good this season

Bednar has an extra year of arbitration too so they get him for next year as well. Not a rental.

Bedanr's having a better year with 1) a worse team, 2) another year of control and 3) better stats
Bednar - 182 ERA+; 1.96 FIP, 1.105 WHIP with 51K in 38 IP. Hitters with .239 avg off his fastball.
Helsey - 139 ERA+, 3.51 FIP, 1.389 WHIP with 41 K in 36 IP. Hitters with .409 avg off his fastball.

So everyone here starts talking about them being permanent fixtures of the lineup forever and ever amen.
