I wouldn't quite say abject failure. I don't know what was offered for who, etc. If there were good offers, though, then you're probably right, and it screams of the front office once again not being willing to do enough to do what needs to be done.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 12:52 pm Maton gets traded. They're afraid to do a full rebuild because they don't want fans checked out, but they're ignoring that fans have been checked out for a few years, and this middle of the road stuff is only going to alienate them further. They don't understand what is going on, and to be fair, the front office is being confusing over what they are supposedly trying to do.
I'm good with what they've got at the deadline so far. I don't know if the players will be any good, but it seems like they got returns comparable with what they traded. Of course, they could have gotten more had they committed to a rebuild traded them earlier, but that brings us back to the front office. Anyway, if there are teams out there willing to give up something for guys like Romero, Burleson, Nootbaar, and especially Donovan (mainly Donovan), you owe it to the future of the team to get some players who are closer to being MLB ready than you're going to get with the guys they've already traded.

Okay per K. Woo it's Maton and Mo isn't even listening to offers for others.

Barring a last minute change, Phil Maton is expected to be the final trade for the Cardinals.
Teams have inquired re: Brendan Donovan, Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar, but according to a team source St. Louis has "not entertained that up to this point."

What the heck are we doing? We're kicking the can down the road...again. We're not getting full value...again. We're getting players who probably won't be anything special...again. There's no creativity. It's just the baseball equivalent of cheerios.
I am a diehard. But honestly, barring anything happening in the next three and a half hours that makes things interesting...I just can't muster up anything positive. Donovan's a nice player. But just that. Nice. Weatherholt might be good--legit good. But that's one player. And he's not so good that he's all you need. JJ and Doyle are the only players I can really get excited about.

Besides JJ and Doyle , I would add Ryan Mitchell as third player to get excited about . Liked our 2nd rounder very much !Strummer Jones wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 13:36 pmThat...to borrow a phrase that local media seems to love...mushy middle IS the failure.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 13:24 pmI wouldn't quite say abject failure. Yes, a HS kid but so was Masyn Winn as he was picked 54th (2nd Rd.) in 2020 out of Kingwood HS in Texas. Mitchell was 55th this year in 2025 from Houston HS in Tenn. ..just one slot different .Strummer Jones wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 14:22 pmAnd I hope he pans out. I really do. Re: Helsley, Matz gone... list who else goes today ?
Me too ! It is a crapshoot as to who makes it and who does not . If teams knew how Masyn Winn would be right now, he easily would have gone in Round 1 (not at top of draft ) but somewhere from 20th ? to the end of Round 1. He has played that well.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 14:36 pmI hope you're right.ramfandan wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 14:31 pmYes, a HS kid but so was Masyn Winn as he was picked 54th (2nd Rd.) in 2020 out of Kingwood HS in Texas.
