Cards need to trade several players they have a log jam between AAA and majors of similar players.
They wait until these players have no value.
so you think it is for sure that if they traded donny and burly and noot they get better players?...stop already...if a trade is offered that improves the team you do it but to trade just to say you made a trade is kind of stupid
Risk…reward
Yes, there is a risk in making a deal……can never be certain as to how the new players develop
Given the current players are on a club that is likely to be sub .500 this year…and next
There seems to be little reward in keeping them

Sorry, but blaming this all on Mo is silly. I'm sure ownership has an interest in trying to make sure that the current team doesn't get so bad that people stop showing up at the ballpark.
I know it rained a little bit but did you see how many showed up last night? I honestly don't see how attendance could get any worse.
Ironically, I could almost bet that if both Mo and Oli were gone today, attendance would start increasing tomorrow simply because people would begin to have faith again without those 2 steering the trainwreck. lol

Pretty clear that Mo was in a no-win position here. If he traded more guys away today (besides the expiring contracts ) , I have a feeling he still would have been highly criticized for being 'fleeced' in the deals for a Donovan, Burly, and Nootbaar.
So he was damned if he SOLD more or Damned if he didn't sell enough.
You nailed it.
At this point, its just whining for the sake of whining.
Not really, half of the moves would be addition by subtraction (Nado, Noot, Fedde already done), most understood that this pss poor front office needed to pick a lane, they have not. They still think they are a playoff team, they are not. The complaints are justified.

I didn't say it was a good strategy by the front office.

Yes this is crazy. This is from the article linked on X:
Phil Maton is expected to be the final trade for the Cardinals. Teams have inquired about Brendan Donovan, Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar to varying degrees, but St. Louis has "not entertained that up to this point" according to a team source. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak said twice in July that if the Cardinals sold, it would likely be limited to players on expiring deals — similar to how the organization operated when it last did so in 2023. Ryan Helsley, Steven Matz and Maton are all pending free agents.

They traded Helsley just to trade him
Also known as Bill's wallet saving 3M.
The QO Comp pick would have been worth more and Helsley is certainly going to attempt to go for the multi year contract.
