Anyone else wondering how Oli still has a job?

Post by blackinkbiz »

Without question, the season ended with the sweep in AZ. Hah, just remembered, that's how and where the 2007 season ended too! Anyways, it's the 3rd year in a row now that a slow start was followed by a great month or two of competitive baseball, with an encore of a collapse. And I think it's safe to say, this one is easily the most epic.

It was just on June 29th!!! that this team was 9 games over .500, had a near +100 run differential, were in one of the WC spots (I think) and were only a couple of games out of first in the NLC.

It hasn't been just a couple of slumps that have cost this team; it's been a system-wide collapse by everyone, with starters falling apart, the entire offense shut out in multiple game stretches, and so on. At what point does the manager finally hold some accountability for this?

Of course the players love playing for Oli, they don't get reamed or treated like sh*t when they perform badly, so what motivation is there to perform better?

I understand this is a "runway" season, but empty stands and unwatchable shutout after shutout isn't runway, it's embarrassment. Will they ever send a message that this isn't tolerated?

Because he's doing exactly what the front office wants him to do. He's the perfect manager for them

oli may or may not be a good manager but to criticize him for having a 500 team with this team is ridiculous

This. That IPad isn't a research tool, it's just how Mo tells him what to do during the game.

I'm not criticizing for just this team. I'm saying since the time he took Quintana out at 74 pitches and thought it was a good idea to put Helsley in for 2IP when he'd just jammed a finger on his throwing hand, Oli has done nothing but run this organization into the ground--with the help of Mo.

I know there was some rain last night but that stadium was nearly empty.

At some point you have to send a message to your fanbase that this isn't the new status quo. The situation has become embarrassingly pathetic.

What's the point of the outgoing POBA firing the Manager with 50 games left? They were outperforming their expectations until the beginning of July, so there was zero reason to even think about it until there were about 80 games left. Let Chaim do it. It would be a big PR win for him to some.

Agreed. But I'm just wondering if it'd be smarter to come out now and say "This is unacceptable for the 'Cardinal Way blah blah' and our fans deserve better and we're not going to wait until next year."

Did you see how many people were there last night? I'm guessing 5k or less.

Yes. Oli is a company man only too happy to be a manager in the bigs.

This franchise has been destroyed.

It will be years before this turns around

I bet the "announced" attendance was 25K. Then you see the empty place on TV and say "No way!"

They can't say that without also investing in the team. Fans will see right through scapegoat [nonsense]. This is an organization problem more than it is a manager problem. You know it, I know, they know it. Everybody knows it.
Now, Oli may very well be gone after the season, but that's more palpable b/c a new regime is taking over.

agreed. There is a serious organizational problem. One problem, the President of Operations ( currently Mo) and the Gm. Two people for basically the same job. This organizational problems list is long.

Just let Stubby finish the season on an interim basis and bring in a real MLB manager for 2026.

OLI SUCKS!
