Blaze Jordan scouting report

Post by Futuregm2 »

Acquired for Steven Matz pending medicals

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 60 | Run: 40 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 50

Jordan was a legend in amateur home run derby circles, winning his first at age 11, crushing a pair of 500-foot homers at another when he was 13 and prevailing in the High School Home Run Derby at the 2019 All-Star Game. He reclassified from the 2021 Draft to 2020, landing an above-slot $1.75 million bonus in the third round as one of the youngest players and top power hitters in his class. He went deep six times in his 28-game pro debut last summer, including twice in nine Low-A contests.

Jordan's massive power has been good as advertised, as he crushes tape-measure shots to all fields and produces huge exit velocities with a right-handed stroke loaded with bat speed, strength and loft. While his struggles against older competition on the high school showcase circuit led to swing-and-miss concerns that depressed his Draft stock, his hitting and approach were better than expected in his introduction to pro ball. He's always going to be more slugger than pure hitter, but he has shown some willingness to use the opposite field and the ability to make adjustments.

Though most of Jordan's value will come from his bat, he has worked hard to improve his conditioning, quickness and defense at third base. He has soft hands and might become adequate at the hot corner, but his average arm and below-average speed and range fit better at first base. His size, power and defensive limitations have prompted comparisons to Matt Holliday and Mark Trumbo.

This was a steal for Matz IMO

He is a right-handed version of a poor man's Alec Burleson

Peaked at age 13 hitting a 500-foot home run

Dumpy athlete with one so-so tool.

Can't run a lick, and poor defensively.

Organization Prospect Rankings

Ranked Boston Red Sox #24 prospect in 2025
BA Grade: 45/High

Track Record: Jordan was a touted prep prospect at an early age who reclassified from the 2021 high school draft class to be eligible in 2020. The Red Sox selected him in the third round, signing him for a bonus of $1.75 million. Jordan has spent parts of three seasons with Double-A Portland as he returned to the level to begin 2025. He was promoted to Triple-A to begin June.

Scouting Report: After an underwhelming full season with Double-A Portland in 2024, Jordan made significant adjustments to his approach heading into 2025. Early in the season, evaluators said Jordan was avoiding his swing-happy ways and is instead grinding out at-bats. Jordan has always displayed above-average or better bat-to-ball skills, but was limited by his habit of expanding the strike zone. In 2025, he married his contact ability and approach and now is bordering on a plus hit tool. His raw power has been above-average due to plus bat speed, but his game power has played down a tick due to flatter launch angles. Jordan is a limited defender at third due to a lack of range despite good hands and actions. He’s likely to spend a majority of his time defensively at first base.

The Future: Jordan provides the Red Sox upper-minors depth at the infield corners and could debut with the Red Sox in 2025.

Scouting Grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 40 | Field: 45 | Arm: 60.

Interesting that BAs hit grade went up from when he was drafted but power grade went down.

Going to have to clear backlog of DH, 1B

Another player I've scouted in person numerous times when he was in HS and a couple times in 2023.This is a really good pull for the Cards given they gave up pretty much nothing to get him. This is your future starting 1B.Think a RH version of Tino Martinez.

He seems like a good option to platoon with Burleson at 1B if Contreras agrees to be traded in the off-season. Or with Gorman at 3B if he can play 3B and Arenado is traded. This seems like better a return than I expected for Matz.

Really? I don’t. This guy kind of seems like a slug athlete with some power. DH/1B type

Higher upside in the Helsley deal for sure

This guy has a walk rate over 10% and barely strikes out more than he walks. That gives him a lot of value if he hits for power.
