The Red Sox and Cardinals have agreed to a trade that will send left-hander Steven Matz to Boston, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. First base prospect Blaze Jordan is headed to the Cards in return, according to the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier. The deal will become official once both sides sign off on the medicals of the players involved.

It's simple: MO made the statement about not wanting to trade for a guy who needed to be on the 40-man to explain a trade where they didn't get a player who was close enough to be on the 40 man. Later, the Red Sox agreed to trade Blaze who is ready for the 40 for Matz and it makes the team look inconsistent, but the original explanation was never a plan, just a contrived excuse to placate fans who would complain about the return for Helsley.

The Cardinals, and certainly Jon Mozeliak, are forever trying to shape the narrative by pointing to some phony 3-dimintional chess scheme that is really just bullshiet.

They said really like Graceffo as a back end of the rotation option. Lehay would be an interesting option also since he pitches you a lot and can go multiple innings maybe coming into the eighth if there’s trouble and pitch the rest of it and the ninth. Cards have some really good late inning potentials And with helsley gone the auditions for next years closer are underway

They need a 5th and 6th SP next year. Graceffo / Leahy could be it when stretched out.
