Luken Baker, we hardly knew you.82birds wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:07 pm The Red Sox and Cardinals have agreed to a trade that will send left-hander Steven Matz to Boston, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. First base prospect Blaze Jordan is headed to the Cards in return, according to the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier. The deal will become official once both sides sign off on the medicals of the players involved.

Baker is out of options next year so id assume hes gone since he wasnt good enough to sticl with team. Fermin is also possibly chopped as he too will be out of optionskyace wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:17 pmMy bet is we have seen the last of Baker82birds wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:11 pmLOLbrock118 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:09 pmYeah Mo says we want low minors guys to keep away from the 40 man traffic, then turn around and trade for a guy that needs to be put on the 40 man?!?!? Again who are we worried about losing on the 40 man that is so good?
that IS curious
Re: Matz to Red Sox
maybe Baker will seek an offensive lineman job in the NFL.

It's simple: MO made the statement about not wanting to trade for a guy who needed to be on the 40-man to explain a trade where they didn't get a player who was close enough to be on the 40 man. Later, the Red Sox agreed to trade Blaze who is ready for the 40 for Matz and it makes the team look inconsistent, but the original explanation was never a plan, just a contrived excuse to placate fans who would complain about the return for Helsley.brock118 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:09 pmYeah Mo says we want low minors guys to keep away from the 40 man traffic, then turn around and trade for a guy that needs to be put on the 40 man?!?!? The Cardinals, and certainly Jon Mozeliak, are forever trying to shape the narrative by pointing to some phony 3-dimintional chess scheme that is really just bullshiet.

Some Memphis relief pitchers are gettin' excited.
Might need to travel to San Diego tomorrow.
King to IL --> Graceffo
Helsley --> Granillo?
Matz --> Mosqueda?
Maton --> Fernandez?

Kinda figured we'd get a AAA/AAAA lefty somewhere. Matz is gone, King sucks and is hurt, and Romero might be packing his bags.cardstatman wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:34 pm Some Memphis relief pitchers are gettin' excited.

Cards 40-man is down to 37 and maybe 36 if Maton is traded.
Re: Matz to Red Sox
if Maton is traded also, we really will have a "runway" bullpen.cardstatman wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:52 pm Cards 40-man is down to 37 and maybe 36 if Maton is traded.
Re: Matz to Red Sox
O'Brien can bring it at 100 MPH. Maybe draw the connection from Helsley there.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:41 pmKinda figured we'd get a AAA/AAAA lefty somewhere. Zach Thompson is coming of the IL. If he gets healthy and effective out of the pen, could replace Matz. I don't know much about Mosqueda.

I think O'Brien probably takes the 9th now. But I don't rule out Graceffo. There were rumblings that he might be the heir apparent. Lots of parallels between him and Helsley.RunSup wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:55 pmO'Brien can bring it at 100 MPH. Yep. And I forgot about Graceffo. They'll be able to figure out the bullpen.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:59 pmI think O'Brien probably takes the 9th now. But I don't rule out Graceffo. Re: Matz to Red Sox
Me either but Mosqueda's been very good for the last 7 or 8 weeks for Memphis.
Graceffo, Granillo, Munoz, Fernandez, and Mosqueda have all been good lately.
I counted O'Brien and Svanson as already on the 26-man roster.

They said really like Graceffo as a back end of the rotation option. Lehay would be an interesting option also since he pitches you a lot and can go multiple innings maybe coming into the eighth if there’s trouble and pitch the rest of it and the ninth. Cards have some really good late inning potentials And with helsley gone the auditions for next years closer are underwayRunSup wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 00:00 amYep. And I forgot about Graceffo. They need a 5th and 6th SP next year. Graceffo / Leahy could be it when stretched out.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 00:07 amThey said really like Graceffo as a back end of the rotation option. CT will freak when there are no FA signings again this off season. The bloom will go off the Bloom.

You gotta let go of, and just ignore Mo. Time to move on and realize that this is no Blooms team.
