Re: Cubs get Soroka
I think we all knew they'd do something big.
Probably not done either.

Re: Cubs get Soroka
Well Brewers, Maton and Matz are here for you.
Re: Cubs get Soroka
Chicago has been tied to several starters and relievers during a wide-ranging search for pitching, and Soroka was an obvious trade candidate as an impending free agent on a non-contending Nats team. Because Soroka pitched so effectively in a relief role with the White Sox last season, the Cubs could potentially use him in the pen again down the stretch, depending on either how much the team trusts Soroka’s work with Washington, or what other rotation help might be heading to Wrigleyville between now and tomorrow’s 5pm CT deadline.

Seems like this is a seller's market except when it comes to Mo.

They got a back end starter. These mid teen prospects are even more of a (bleep) shoot.brock118 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 22:53 pmThat seems like a lot to give up for Soroka, No?RunSup wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 21:26 pm Ronny Cruz ranked 13th on MLB pipeline top 30 for the Cubs

Not too much different than we got for Helsley though. Soroka sucks and is a free agent too.RunSup wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 23:00 pmThey got a back end starter. I think Baez is a better prospect than CT and Keith Law give them credit for. He was coming off knee surgery.brock118 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 00:20 amNot too much different than we got for Helsley though. Anyway we'll have a couple of years to see. Though Cardinal reporters and podcasters will be all over the conflicting reports this week.
Mo's tenure is basically over tomorrow. It's Bloom's team now.

Re: Cubs get Soroka
Don't quit your day job. Soroka excelled as a reliever last year and has good peripherals with great run on this breaking pitches. The Cubs will move him to the pen once Taillon and Assad come back. They needed another RH middle innings guy now that Pomeranz has gone off the rails. They also gave really nothing for him. Farm rankings are relative. Neither is a top 100 guy. Franklin is going to be 25 and the Cubs will lose him to Rule 5 this offseason if they don't put him on the 40-man and there's no room. Who the hell knows what Cruz will become. Right now, he profiles as a good defensive short stop with a questionable bat.brock118 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 00:20 amNot too much different than we got for Helsley though. Re: Cubs get Soroka
So Soroka will be a swing man spot starter for the Cubs. I realize comparing prospects from team to team aren't equal, but the Cubs have a decent farm system. The great Soroka is currently sitting at 4.87 ERA in 16 starts. He got 2 Cubs top 14 prospects. Helsley got a little bit better, but is an all star closer, Soroka is a JAG. Plus he is always injured, Helsley not so much. Plus Soroka's velocity has been dropping as the season has gone on as he hasn't pitched this many innings since 2019. The Nats got a good haul for Soroka.Northsider76 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 05:51 amDon't quit your day job. And just like that Soroka goes on the IL after just 2 innings. I will keep my day job thank you.brock118 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 12:59 pmSo Soroka will be a swing man spot starter for the Cubs. Re: Cubs get Soroka
And they lost because Swanson missed first base on what would have driven in the tying run!
