So, Cards are playing Ivan in LF. That yields the following players for OF:

Snoot
Hurdy
JW
Ivan
Argo

Minors:
Church
Antico
Baez

Doesn't this make Hurdy Gurdy a perfect trade candidate?.High value, arb eligible, FA in 2028...

Where's he gonna play going forward? He's meh defensively at 2b. JJ is to go there even though he should replace Winn at SS.

Do you really want to see him at 3b? I don't see anyone trading for Nado and it would probably require the Cards to eat $'s. I find that unlikely.

We need a bat. We will need a third baseman. Perfect storm. Can anyone say George Brett.

I have no problem trading Donnie for a good return. That said, Saggese hasn't shown anything, and Nado is gone soon. Gorman ... the uniKKKorn.... who knows. Could spend his year on the IL with back issues, may never hit above .220 and is meh defensively anywhere. In your trade Donnie scenario you need two infielders, one for 2B and one for 3B. JJ is only one and Saggese and Gorman are meh... Am I missing someone? Haven't had my caffeine yet....Fermin is not the answer...

Maybe. But if that's the route they go, I think the deadline is the wrong time to do it. That's a trade better suited for the offseason. Reasons being:
1. More clarity on Arenado. If they can't trade him this offseason, trading Donovan makes more sense. I'd be ok with Donnie at 3B next season if NA is gone (over Gorman for sure).
2. See how JJ looks during his call up later this season.
3. Bigger market of teams for Donovan's services.

It does, makes perfect sense.

Earlier I was in the "no way", you extend him and build around.

But upon further analysis the logjam has to be broken and Donny is a valuable trading piece this offseason for C. Bloom (I'd rather wait unless Mo/Bloom get that Godfather offer before 5 pm Thurs).

JJ's rise thru the system has changed my mind, the kid is going to now be the player you build around.

Unless Bloom has plans to play JJ at SS and use Winn as a trade piece for a #2 quality starting pitcher (and I have no problem w/him doing that), then Donny most likely goes this winter.

It's a very tough question with Donovan imo, but not hard to see both sides can make good points.
Guess it depends on the return of what you could get.
If the Dodgers want to overpay for what's already a very good trade value for BD, the Cards have to at least consider it.

I think you send whatever amount of money it takes to trade Arenado first, but .............
