I think the Cardinals should implement an organizational policy to not give out No Trade Clauses.

It seems like they have been one of the biggest hurdles to rebuild. Having to keep Arenado around and Gray is horrible for rebuilding.

I think they just need to have a policy that they don't do NTCs.

If the Cardinals didn't give Sonny Gray a no trade close, then he never would have been a Cardinal.
Nolan Arenado already had the no trade clause when the Cardinals acquired him.

IMO Gray is the only player where the NTC interferes with movement. Then again
being owed $40 million is limiting in its own. Maybe next season
WC becomes one.

Plenty of players can be moved still. The FO just needs to decide who they want
and don't want as part of the roster. IMO.

Right, the goal is an extended stretch of mediocrity, which is horrible. They should have blown it up after 2023, and that would have really recharged a rebuild. Now they are still at least 2-4 years away from any kind of contention, and that's only IF they can get some of their pitching prospects like Hence, Matthews, and Doyle to actually pan out.

They tried to move Arenado and he vetoed it with his NTC. I get that the Rockies are the team that gave it to him. I just think the Cardinals should be very reluctant about giving any out in the future and trading for people who are aging and owed a lot of money and have a NTC, like Arenado. Guy is going to be an absolute boat anchor through 2027. 2+ more years of watching Arenado hobble around and swing a wet newspaper.

in NHL< this is a thing, so if a guy tries to be a (bleep) about being dealt, you can just waiver wire him and still deal him to the team he refused to join.

The point being with NA is that the NTC did not stop the possibility of a trade
as much as his decreased production didn't get the teams that he preferred to want
him.
We'll see what happens, but the team and moves don't have to be on hold.
They'll have a lot of money if they chose.
