not a lot of hope in minors
have a few good players with some potential but after so many of supposedly future stars turning into pumpkins once they hit the majors you can see why the fan base is apathetic. Dewitt's have lost their competitive fire and are merely cashing huge checks and don't seem to care anymore so why would we as fans? crowds are small and doubtful if that's going to change anytime soon. mediocre product on field and STL is famous for punishing cheap (bleep) owners who are more interested in other markets or simply taking their money.
personally I have no interest in going to games anymore when there is just so little chance of being consistantly competitive and striving for playoffs. seems like more and more fanbases are getting there with only a handful of franchises willing to spend money on the few bigtime players.
especially now that Cardinals don't seem capable of developing enough talent.

A lot of pitchers getting injured and or hitting a wall in AAA. Position players seem better heeled, especially at the lower levels. Lot of talent at Springfield.

I am certainly not a front office apologist, but they have just invested in the whole player development system. We are about to get a change in leadership. Yes, I know ownership is not changing, but let's see what Bloom does. If they give him even a moderate budget, he will do more with it than MO did. The reality is we are a year or two away from some of these guys on the farm contributing. Next season will probably be a lot like this season. Around .500. perhaps Bloom will be allowed to get a real manager and pitching coach, we shall see about that.
Re: not a lot of hope in minors
There'd be a lot more hope in the minors if Mo had gone for a full sell-off in 2023 when Goldy and Arenado still had value, just sayin'.

The frustrating part is the current vision is not a new philosophy. BDW wanted to do this a decade ago. But Mo flat-(donkey) failed miserably.

This is where BDW Jr failed as an owner. He should have canned Mozo the Clown 7 years ago.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 10:39 am The frustrating part is the current vision is not a new philosophy. BDW wanted to do this a decade ago. But Mo flat-(donkey) failed miserably.
Main problem now is that we potentially have BDW III running the show in the future. BDW Jr was once a good, invested owner, much like his dad, BDW Sr was with the Reds back in the 1950’s & ‘60’s. His nepo trust fund baby BDW III is only interested in the bottom line. This is looking like a rerun of when the torch got passed from
Augie Busch Jr, to August A Busch III who didn’t give two feces about baseball.
Re: not a lot of hope in minors
there's hope and rebellion in the minors.
Bloom has stripped down the minors and rebuilt the R&D side, philosophy side for almost 2 seasons now. He's added more coaches/instructors per level to get up to speed with the rest of the Orgs. Guys who probably wouldn't have panned out early on in their pro career, are having remarkably/incredibly good years.
This sets up Bloom rather well going forward at the end of this season.
You want Immediate gratification? Sorry....attrition derailed your hopes there....plus it was stated we don't have the team to win this year...so the expectations should've been altered....but, alas, so many still wanted that highly competitive team with millions of prospects to pluck from.

He will not do more than Mo. Did Bloom actually play baseball? Bloom will listen to scouts and other baseball men to make decisions.bccardsfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 10:07 am I am certainly not a front office apologist, but they have just invested in the whole player development system. It sure does. I wouldn't be surprised to see BDW3 sell the team once the old man is gone.Hazelwood72 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 10:46 amThis is where BDW Jr failed as an owner. Re: not a lot of hope in minors
False. We got Goldy and Nado for borderline talent that turned out to be worthless. Had we traded them 4 years later we would have gotten even less in return.
Too many posters act like these "missed opportunities" represented Bobby Witt/Hunter Greene level prospects. They don't. And whatever filler we had gotten for them wouldn't have changed the outlook or excitement level materially.
Re: not a lot of hope in minors
They were both a few months removed from top-3 MVP seasons, and they were still productive bats. Also deadline deals for impact players tend to be inflated compared to offseason deals, which is when Cards acquired them.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 11:28 amFalse. Also you're totally (and conveniently) leaving out that Arenado took away all of Colorado's leverage.

They both had NTCs so Mo realistically never would have gotten the chance.3dender wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 11:33 amThey were both a few months removed from top-3 MVP seasons, and they were still productive bats. Even if they didn't - we still wouldn't have gotten Hunter Greene for either one. Those trades don't happen anymore. 70 grade Prospects are too overvalued.

Re: not a lot of hope in minors
So a different manager can make a talentless team play better over a 162 games?bccardsfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 10:07 am I am certainly not a front office apologist, but they have just invested in the whole player development system. A different manager can diagnose what can be saved, what can be improved by teaching, and what needs to be replaced and demand additions. Tony made a HOF career of it.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 11:41 amSo a different manager can make a talentless team play better over a 162 games?bccardsfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 10:07 am I am certainly not a front office apologist, but they have just invested in the whole player development system.
