Alcantara Full Circle

Post by Futuregm2 »

Sandy Alcantara starts tonight for Miami and it could be his final start for the Marlins. And wouldn’t you know it it would be in St. Louis against the team that traded him there.

Be even better if they trade him back.

Or buy low on Z. Gallen (FA at seasons end) w/o having to trade anyone.

According to MLB.com they are starting a pitcher named Bergert. His last start was 7 shutout innings vs San Diego. 4 starts prior to that were poor.

Likely they are skipping his start because he is gone.

His career to date....

46-64, 3.66 ERA, 3.84 FIP and 1.185 WHIP. One Cy Young Award.

...and one Tommy John surgery. I think he is worth a try but it would require more patience than most fan bases have.

2025 Alcantara

A devilish 6.66 ERA and a 1.433 WHIP

22 runs over his last 5 starts

I would love to take a flyer on Alcantara or Gallen as buy-low guys as our rotation is going to be needing at least two free agents for 2026. We might as well 'add' the FA now as these two are both high reward types if given the change of scenery.

Gray
Pallante
Liberatore
McGreevy

That's essentially it as far as who we have for 2026. Not the most dependable crew of pitchers and if one of them gets hurts, we will really be struggling.

Maybe a change to a better team would make a difference. His whip is way high.

If they could get him for minimal talent in return, he may be worth the risk. However, it would be a big risk.

It would have cost a fortune in prospect capital to get them 2 years ago. They are both at their lowest value since leaving St. Louis I would say.

Or go for both IF they actually traded Gray away before the deadline, which I know, the old NTC thing.

methinks gray and closer are gone but problem is best young pitching prospects are all hurt or have been on IL a lot.

Since he's not starting tonight, maybe make the trade tonight, have him switch dugouts and uniforms, and start Wed......wouldn't THAT be a Hoot?! :?
