I’m chuckling because when it comes to Burleson on CT he is either “overrated” or “underrated” there is no in between.
And in between is where he most likely fits.
I have been impressed with his first half. He has established himself as a regular but can he sustain it??
Last year he had a strong first half then tailed off the last two months.
We know he can play 1B and while he is no gazelle....his OF defense to me is adequate.
Now....can he finish strong AND make strides batting against LH pitching?
If not...he may fit in as a platoon guy vs RH pitching?
Not that that is a bad thing it’s just that right now the Cards are a bit overloaded from the Left side so who plays?
Burleson/Gorman/Nootbaar/Scott/Donovan?
To me Donovan is easily the best vs. LH pitching and Scott has the edge in PT playing CF.
With Wetherholt and Crooks looming someone figures to get dealt??
there is in between. He's become an average player, who doesn't belong in the 3 spot in the lineup. But without better options, that's where we are.
from 0.6 WAR to 1.4 WAR. He's up to "in between"
Yes I agree.
I just laugh because a certain poster promotes him
as the second coming of Ted Williams while others belittle him because that certain poster greatly overrates him. LOL
So who's the better value for the Cardinals, right now? Burleson or Arenado? Or even Contreras. Let's see if you are as brilliant as you think you are. Hint, hint, lot's of difference in salary/performance. Then please tell us who you feel is more over-rated. Maybe if some, like you, would take their blinders off they'd see that Burleson just might not be over-rated at all. See how the final season stats turn out for the very sparsely paid, Burleson.
Since you responded DIRECTLY to me concerning a post that I made to another poster I guess I must have hit the nail on the head??
What exactly in my post was “inaccurate”??????
And BTW.....I don’t think Burleson is overrated anywhere except by certain posters on CT.
I also maintain there are a number of posters on CT who underrate him!
For those forum members who may be unfamiliar with Shady's usual goalpost-shifting and fact-free horsesh*t, a brief primer:
Shady: "Burleson is the next Tony Gwynn." "Burleson is the next Joey Votto." (Actual quotes)
CardsTalk consensus: Burleson is a one-dimensional player who could be a decent bench bat and/or role player on the low end, with a ceiling of a low-end starter, which has value as long as he is cost-controlled/pre-arb.
Reality: At age 26, Tony Gwynn posted 6.2 fWAR, and Joey Votto posted 6.9 fWAR. By contrast, in his
best season so far, Burleson is on pace for approx. 1.8-2.0 fWAR, and has averaged 0.45 fWAR/150 games played. Fangraphs defines a “role player” as 1-2 fWAR, and a “solid starter” as 2-3 fWAR. So once again, the many posters who said Burleson could be a good role player or even low-end starter were
much closer to being “right” than Shady (“the next Tony Gwynn /Joey Votto”). Please keep this in mind whenever Shady gaslights the forum with another one of his dishonest victory laps.
