does anybody really think herrera can play the outfield
his bat definitely warrants a spot but the idea that he can play the outfield seems far fetched at best

He’ll be fine in LF.
Re: does anybody really think herrera can play the outfield
Have you ever seen Ozuna climb the OF wall….with the ball landing at the front warning track
Have you ever seen lil Dunc track a fly ball
Have you ever seen Holliday take a liner off his junk

Yes....why not????
His bat plays. So....if you move him out from behind the plate??
Which makes sense since he is below average defensively there and we are loaded with catching prospects.
Where does he fit??
DH is an obvious spot. But....if you don’t want to tie that position down with one man then you experiment with him at corner OF.
BTW....if he has physically held up catching I think he can handle LF??
As for his defense out there we’ll see?
Holliday and Duncan handled it.
Plus all everybody talks about is finding a RH OF!
I wonder? Is it a “coincidence” that his first start in LF is with one of the NL’s top ground ball pitchers on the mound??

A DH only Herrera is trade bait. Herrera viable at a defensive position or 2 is an asset.

I suspect Herrera will be fine in LF. I’m sure John Jay has been working with him on positioning and jumps. How bad could he be? We’ve had some pretty meh defensive LFers.RunSup wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 19:56 pm+1. Plus he has legs. He can run.Cusecards wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 19:40 pm Yes....why not????

I believe that he can play outfield. It might take a bit for him to adjust but he will be fine. The Cardinals need his bat and this gives Herrera a better chance of staying healthy.

Matt Holliday and Chris Duncan come to mind.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 20:04 pmI suspect Herrera will be fine in LF. I’m sure John Jay has been working with him on positioning and jumps.
