Open to trade ... within the NL Central division
The Cardinals should be open to trading their pending free agents to anybody, including the Cubs and the Brewers. That means all 3 relievers with contracts ending.
Cutting off 2 teams out of the market for these players just because they are in the division is silly.
This seems completely obvious. But just had to get that off my chest.

Agree……the cards are toast…..it’s not like they are jeopardizing their chances to win the divisionRunSup wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 09:54 am The Cardinals should be open to trading their pending free agents to anybody, including the Cubs and the Brewers. That means all 3 relievers with contracts ending.

If those clubs make the best offers….take it…
As free agents they may end up there anyway…

Franchise is on an island right now.
Any move that can improve the team for the future.
It will be years before the Cardinals are relevant again.

Or with the Reds, who are only 1 game back of the 3rd WC spot and with starters like Abbott, Burns, Greene (if he came back healthy), Lodolo, etc. could really be set up for a playoff run.RunSup wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 09:54 am The Cardinals should be open to trading their pending free agents to anybody, including the Cubs and the Brewers. Reds could use 2B/3B, and 1B help. Would Contreras waive his NTC? Or Donovan help?
Re: Open to trade ... within the NL Central division
Arenado's lack of power in STL would possibly get a boost in Milwaukee's home stadium, or Wrigley for that matter. Don't know if he'd accept either, but I'll volunteer to come get him and drive him to either place with a trunk full of Cardinal money. Heck, make it a bed full of STL money if we take the truck. Wait, got a bigger business truck with a 18' trailer and 3 axles. We're talking pallets of moola now.
Free shipping would be my contribution. Plenty of room for a BP guy to tag along. I'll buy them lunch at the truck stops, well, within reasons obviously, you know, a dog, some chips and a drink. OK, and a candy bar, geesh.

Agreed on the Reds being right there in the wild card hunt and potential trade partners.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 10:06 amOr with the Reds, who are only 1 game back of the 3rd WC spot and with starters like Abbott, Burns, Greene (if he came back healthy), Lodolo, etc. could really be set up for a playoff run.RunSup wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 09:54 am The Cardinals should be open to trading their pending free agents to anybody, including the Cubs and the Brewers. I am too used to leaving them out. They are changing the equation.

Trading key fan favorite players with more control after this season to in division teams? Might as well just move the team to Nashville at that point.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 10:06 amOr with the Reds, who are only 1 game back of the 3rd WC spot and with starters like Abbott, Burns, Greene (if he came back healthy), Lodolo, etc. could really be set up for a playoff run.RunSup wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 09:54 am The Cardinals should be open to trading their pending free agents to anybody, including the Cubs and the Brewers. Re: Open to trade ... within the NL Central division
Who cares about trading in division, this idea should have died years ago.
What a fear-based mode of operation.
Who cares if a former Cardinals plays for a division rival.
It works both ways people.

+1. "Fan favorites" come and go. Trading Contreras or Brendan Donovan to the Reds? I get the game is different but that isn't going to happen. Teams do trade in division but not with players on that level.RunSup wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 10:40 am+1. "Fan favorites" come and go. But yeah, I am open to any trade that moves the team forward for the future. Even Donovan. Though the Dodgers will make a play there.
