Renewed interest for Arenado could shake up Thursday deadline

One thing that makes the Arenado situation interesting is that according to Mo he was going to have a meeting with Nado the past few days to gauge his willingness to waive his NTC and to which possible teams. Thus far the team and Nado have kept the results of that meeting under wraps.
As in last offseason , we knew Arenado would waive but of course the teams were kept secret ( reportedly there were 4 or 5 ) .
Wonder if Goold is digging for info now whether Nado has expanded his list of teams. Wouldn't be surprised if Nado's agent may speak publicly in next few days on the situation either to quell trade rumors or to say Arenado has discussed new teams with Mo that weren't previously on his list .
(Of course if the latter, the specific team names would not be released by his agent nor Mo ) .
One team that was not on his list apparently last winter that 'might' be on his list now could be the Milwaukee Brewers. They have been reported to be interested in Suarez but wonder if they would consider Arenado should Suarez go elsewhere. With their current record , it sure looks like Milwaukee is in a great spot to either win the Central or make a wildcard spot. POBO Matt Arnold is known to make surprise moves and in the past big trades have not leaked prematurely .. ex. the Josh Hader trade a couple years ago was a shock that nobody saw coming.

1. I do not doubt that Mo has re-addressed the NTCs with Arenado & Gray.
2. Time will tell if either has changed their minds.
3. Goold should be investigating this with sources other than Mo.

Since Mo addressed the NTC with both players, it seems only logical that the reports that Cardinals are 'listening to offers' on both players indicated that probably BOTH have indicated to Mo they are open to be traded.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑27 Jul 2025 23:27 pm 1. If Sonny Gray had said absolutely NOT , then no reason for Mo to be 'listening to offers' this week. Now it doesn't mean that Gray or Nado would just go to any team, but I would guess that Sonny Gray has told Mo that he would be open to a change of scenery for next year. Sure Mo explained to Sonny that they will be trading expiring contracts this year and that they have no plans to sign any big free agent types this offseason so the team will b e even younger in 2026 as the ' rebuild ' is ON. Sonny is now at that point in his career where he has just a couple years left and may want to have fun on a winnng contending type team now.

In a logical situation, you are absolutely right. But this is Johnny bow ties Mozeliak we are talking about. He's probably doing this (donkey) backwards. Knowing that putz, he's probably wasting time engineering trades before talking to either player.ramfandan wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 00:38 amSince Mo addressed the NTC with both players, it seems only logical that the reports that Cardinals are 'listening to offers' on both players indicated that probably BOTH have indicated to Mo they are open to be traded.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑27 Jul 2025 23:27 pm 1. Suarez hbp in Detroit. Chip said reports are Suarez was "doubled up in pain". Could increase interest in Arenado.

Nado will remain a Cardinals. Why don’t these jokers look to trade players who can actually be dealt!?
I’ve never seen someone ruminate as hard as Moe on Nado.

Re: Renewed interest for Arenado could shake up Thursday deadline
It might be because Arenado is holding up a bunch of trades that may happen, they want to open up 3B to the youngsters and get rid of as much of his payroll as possible and if they can't it may hinder them from more moves.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 21:56 pm Nado will remain a Cardinals. There was an article today on this very topic on mlbtraderumors.com. They said the Gray didn't want to waive his NTC, but Mo was doing the footwork to find out what teams wanted him so that he could at least tell him what the situation was.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 01:15 amIn a logical situation, you are absolutely right. That makes sense in regards to nudging Gray. As long as he (Mo), is multitasking on other possible deals.brock118 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025 22:06 pmThere was an article today on this very topic on mlbtraderumors.com. Re: Renewed interest for Arenado could shake up Thursday deadline
All it takes is
1- NADO waiving
2- BDWJr swalling hard and eating $20M
Return will be minimal but opens 3rd base for 2026.

Mo would throw in Helsley to save money.rockondlouie wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 08:52 am All it takes is

Re: Renewed interest for Arenado could shake up Thursday deadline
There is no point in trading Arenado or Gray.
We aren't in a payroll crunch. We won't get any sort of return back prospect-wise. They aren't going to re-invested the saved money in new free agents. I mean, with Gray and Arenado, our 2026 payroll is $70M below where we were in 2024. Also, there really isn't much of a logjam that trading them would open up at this time.

Re: Renewed interest for Arenado could shake up Thursday deadline
Strongly disagree with Arenado. Moving him perhaps keep the Cards from trading away Donovan or Winn while helping to open up the infield for Wetherholt, and even if you have to send $20M with NA for a team to take him, it still saves the Cards payroll over the next 2 years.PadsFS07 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 09:39 am There is no point in trading Arenado or Gray.
