Fantastic Four

Post by Dicktar2023 »

Meh.

Good actors but zero chemistry as a group, not helped by a bland, self-serious script. Pascal's legendary charm is nowhere to be found in this utterly humorless version of Reed Richards. I was sitting there the whole time thinking "it takes a whole bunch of people to write dialogue this boring" and sure enough, there are six credited writers. I assume ChatGPT petitioned to have its name removed.

Galactus is very cool, and the climatic battle with him works better than any MCU showdown in recent memory. Director Matt Shakman does a much better job of hiding his CGI limitations than James Gunn did.

As a long-time SIlver Surfer fan, I've been cranky about the sex change, but the character works pretty well. There is a flashback moment featuring Julia Garner, and all I could think of is Ruth from Ozark screaming at Galactus that he doesn't know [shirt] about [fork].

Just got home from seeing it with my kids. We all enjoyed it, but it's not as good as I was hoping. I'd probably give it about a 7/10. I was also shocked at how humorless this movie was.

I saw it on Thursday, and I think a 7/10 is pretty fair. I think Joseph Quinn did a really good job as the Human Torch, and also provided basically the only comedy in the movie. I was surprised there wasn't more. Mole Man I guess had a couple lines.

Pedro Pascal is in every TV show and movie that is out right now, and honestly I think he did fine. I didn't picture Joel or any of his other characters, but he played it very bland, and like what has been said, probably the writing is to blame. Vanessa Kirby was the best I think, and with the Thing I kept thinking "yes Chef".

It was the best Fantastic Four movie yet, but that is not saying much I know. I didn't hate the original two movies as much as everyone else did though.
If this is the new leads for the next decade of Marvel, I am not too excited.

Saw it with my daughters today (10 and 13) and we all really liked it. We had a lot of fun with it. Liked the sci-fi elements and thought the casting was really good. I will say, however, that I found this version of Reed Richards to be kind of an afterthought. Everyone else seemed to stand out where he just sort of blended in. Also, love Natasha Lyonne but why was her character even there? Either explore that storyline more or not at all.

They were chasing the big name with Pedro, he definitely is not the right choice for Reed Richards. He’s boring and vanilla in his performance.

The rest of them were great, though, particularly Ben. This is the best rendition of The Thing so far.

The art design of the film is quite awesome. They nailed the retro 60s look.

Lame they cut out Malkovich. Was it really because monkeys appeared in Superman? Or was it runtime? Definitely odd he was in the first trailer and then not in the movie. If it was a runtime decision, I don’t think an extra 10 minutes would have been a problem.

Now, Galactus. The scale and ominous god-like presence was superb. The CGI, not so much. He looked cool in the darkness of the ship. Once you got him into daylight, he looked like a video game character. The colors were muted. The face looked fake. Overall, still ok, but I wasn’t blown away by the look. And that’s too bad because Galactus is the best Marvel villain of them all, imo. Well, Doom is up there too. We’ll see what they do.
