One of the biggest things people overlook when talking about dealing for prospects, not all of them have to figure in your roster plans in the future. Some can be used as an additional piece to make a bigger trade later.
Get the best return you can for all your free agents, then figure out how you want to use the prospects.

I personally would like to keep JoJo and Maton. theyve been pretty good for us and I've seen the BP arms the farm has to offer. no thx
I wouldn't mind Hels staying too, but think that ship has sailed

agree, although "combine Helsley and one of the other three" will not get a team's top prospect.IndCard75 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025 05:55 am Baltimore got two prospects for Soto. One of them unranked. Best case scenario we trade two of Maton Romero or Matz to the same team and get one really good prospect. Or combine Helsley and one of the other 3 and get a teams top prospect. Other than trading Donovan this is our best chance at getting something good back in a trade.
I wish that were true.
Re: Jojo Romero and Phil Maton
I’m ok with that but we will need arms next year. Both guys are cheap. So I’m fine either way. Just don’t underestimate needing arms in 2026.Boyd Crowder wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 17:40 pm Surely they’d fetched an interesting lottery ticket. This franchise is more than a year away from contending. Anyone in that pen should be on the block
Re: Jojo Romero and Phil Maton
When folks say they would have extended Helsley, can you please give us an idea of how much and how long?
And why would he agree instead of going to FA, where pitchers seem to get more than any pre-FA offers?
(And yeah, I don't buy the talk of his wanting to stay here so much. About 75% of players seem to say that for leverage.)

I wish they would deal Helsley right away. Two strong outings in a row…
dealing Matz would be a very good thing. Maybe packaged in a deal could increase solid return.
Keeping Romo and Maton to finish out games this year would not be a bad thing. This bullpen will be very poor if they don’t keep some order to it.

Even said a while ago I'd give Maton a two year deal right now.
But it seems MO has no interest.

I mean we do still need a couple solid arms like theirs in the 2026 pen' too.
