Let me ask posters a question. Mo came to the Cardinals with Walt in 1995. He’s been with the Cardinals in various capacities up and down the organization for 30 years. During that time, the Cardinals have had four losing seasons. Four. And they have been in the World Series 3 times, winning 2 World Championships. He’s been honored by being named MLB Executive of the Year multiple times.
I’ll fully admit that the Cardinals have been disappointing over the past decade, with an abysmal
playoff record (when they even made the playoffs). Very disappointing to fans, including this one.
Criticize the downslide and various moves that didn’t work out, sure. But why all the vicious personal attacks? Cruel and nasty nicknames, making fun of the way he dresses, etc. One poster even wanted to assault him and smash him in the face. Another talked about bird feces on him.
Express disappointment and display frustration, sure, but why all the other nasty personal stuff? Maybe we should recognize both the good and the bad over 30 years.

Re: John Mozeliak
I'll be honest here. I used to generally like him and i think his overall career has been very good.
For me he just rubs me the wrong way, the smugness. I know that shouldn't bother me but it always has.
To be fair to him i was at a game last year and he was walking down the concourse. Many people saw him. A boy probably 7 years old or so ran up to him and asked for an autograph. He squatted down, signed the hat and seemed genuinely happy to talk to the boy and his dad.
So he's probably a good guy i just think he could have done a little better over the last few years with his public relations and public image

Re: John Mozeliak
In my opinion there has always seemed to be a lack of honesty. No Bing Devine for sure.
Just the way I see it.
Just the way I see it.
Re: John Mozeliak
I would characterize his tenure as certainly being positive.
But...yes....recently there has been a distinct drop off.
Change was needed and now it is upon us.
I am by nature a sports fan and while the Cards are probably my favorite team I do get heavily into the other sports.
Regardless....while I have been critical of his moves I also don’t get the personal venom and hatred for the man?
To me it’s still a “sport” and if you honestly hate a GM that you have zero personal contact with you may want to take a look in the mirror?

Re: John Mozeliak
There's far too much personal negativity, in general, on CT. That's what you get with anonymity.

Re: John Mozeliak
Ok, I'll bite.
He's been employed WAY past his expiration date. He's done hardly anything of note for the last many years. The Arenado and Goldschmidt deals were like gimme putts. If any real effort was needed to get what the team needed for postseason success, he usually punted. Dry powder, low hanging fruit and arbitrage. Yeah, that's a word he actually used. And a guy returning from the IL was 'just like making a trade'.
The money our disinterested owner provided for salaries, Moe pretty much wasted on stupid contracts and extensions, too many to mention here. The coaching and minor league system went to hell. Remember the women's softball coach who was hired as the assistant hitting coach? Does that sound like something a proud major league team would do?
He's been the face of the team for many years and has a smug, I know everything attitude about him. He and the owners thought the fans were suckers that would show up for anything. I'll admit, it took a while for most the of the fans to figure out they were being scammed. But look at the attendance now!
I don't get into the personal attacks myself, (in fact I hardly ever post) but I can understand when frustrated fans do. This team went from being a standard bearer of the National League to being just another team to beat up on. On his watch. I won't miss him.

If the team wins, they are a good person and Stl is a great place
If the team loses, they believe they will be thought of poorly …….and they have lost a sense of pride..
They blame Mo for making them a lesser person….thus the personal attacks
It’s not unusual….common in fan bases

The key question to evaluate him: Has he left the organization better than when he took over?Cranny wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 09:46 am Let me ask posters a question. I’ll let you answer the question.
Re: John Mozeliak
Just check out the state of the franchise today.
Re: John Mozeliak
It’s no different than any other city with any other executive/coach/player and the sooner you accept that the sooner you can start getting restful nights sleep
Clayton kershaw jerseys were once burned in the parking lot at dodgers stadium after a playoff elimination
Cowboys fans BEG Jerry jones to sell the team
There was an old Chicago Bear HC(whose name escapes me) whose daughter received death threats on (formally) twitter
Let’s be real Mo gets it pretty light comparatively speaking to some of the cities he could be in. Put him in Philly, New York, Boston, LA, he might be in legitimate physical danger
Here we just make fun of his bow ties and prissy attitude or to train birds to chit on his statue. Big whoop
He’s been dishonest, lazy and a smug arrogant p**ck for a while now and the team is in awful shape. He deserves nothing

+1...he's the face of the franchise with a very punch-able face...Banner29 wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 10:07 am It’s no different than any other city with any other executive/coach/player and the sooner you accept that the sooner you can start getting restful nights sleep

Re: John Mozeliak
He piggy backed off the success of the organization Linhow, Larussa and Walt built it took him time to dismantle it but he did the further it got away from the culture and success of Walt and Tony the worse the team got until now you see the results of pure Mo. one of the worst parts of mo is the cards could have had more successful post seasons if he didn’t doCranny wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 09:46 am Let me ask posters a question. The bare minimum. For several years the cards had great starting pitching and he neglected the middle of the order trying to force guys like grichuk Adam’s into the role and praying for success and when they needed middle of the order bats he would get a reliever and a guy like moss. Then after years of fans saying they need middle of the order bats he finally decides they do and goes and gets ozuna then goldy and then arenado then he lets the starting pitching go to trash. He only went for it one time in his entire time here and that was 2011 because of Larussa and they won the World Series the cardinals probably could have been a lot better if he went out and got and an experienced manager instead of going for rookie managers who have to get on the on the job training

Correction. I advocated for bird droppings on his statue, should the Cardinals elect to build one. I never said that there should be bird droppings on Mr. Mozeliak himself.Cranny wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 09:46 am Let me ask posters a question. Mo came to the Cardinals with Walt in 1995. Please acknowledge this, Cranny. You should be better than misrepresenting my recent post.
As far as MO’s record, I still maintain he has presided over the utter destruction of The Cardinal Way, the team’s farm system, the team’s scouting quality and lack-of-results, and the team’s utter decline in the eyes of all expert national media. And I still maintain his early successes were due to Jocketty and LaRussa’s influence. Once Mozeliak got ultimate power, it’s been a continual decline.
For me, firing Mike Shildt the way he did was the last straw. That was a totally classless and utterly selfish move, because it showed Cardinal Nation and the national press that John Mozeliak didn’t want to be proven wrong by his own field manager, a baseball lifer in the Cardinal organization. Shildt had even longer tenure in the Cardinal org than Mo, but you advocate for a day of honor for Mo but a cold slap in the face for Shildt?
After that, I had zero respect or empathy for Mozeliak.

It's the internet, an mostly anonymous. It's often best to take with more than a grain of salt. Many people act different here than they would one on one or in person. Ok, and if you take that into consideration perhaps it shouldn't bother you so much.
It also comes with the territory. On draft day, the NFL, the NBA and MLB all boo in person their commissioner about every chance they get. OK, they're well compensated and surely know that's often just part of the gig and makeup of many passionate fans.

And while I do get passionately into the dialogue sometimes I never let CT stick with me throughout the day.
It’s an opinion forum and while I do enjoy talking about the team I realize it’s still a game NOT family, health, finances, etc
