Blues Could Be Sellers Sooner Than Expected In 2025-26
Not a fan of the premise of this article, but I suppose anything is possible.

Blues could be sellers sooner than expected in 2025-26
The St. Louis Blues could pivot this strategy this upcoming season if things don't go quite as expected at the start of the season.

The St. Louis Blues could be compelled to sell off assets sooner rather than later this upcoming season.
A piece by Marco D’Amico published by RG Media on July 19 looked at how the trade market could heat up very quickly this upcoming season. In particular, the piece set Thanksgiving as an unofficial trade deadline.
Why Thanksgiving? Conventional wisdom around the NHL suggests that teams outside of a playoff spot by Thanksgiving are unlikely to make it.

NINE paragraphs in "It's worth pointing out that the Blues are nowhere near a teardown".
Waste of words, nothing optimistic to speculate on?

Nestor Quixtan obviously has no information. He does have an imagination though. Slow day for hockey reporters apparently.

NHL summertime news quality. They need those clicks in July.

Yeah sure anything is possible I guess. About the only thing I would see off the table this season is being a big buyer and mortgaging the future for the playoff run this year. I think the organization sees playoffs as reasonable goal but not willing to sacrifice premium picks/prospects to try to win it all.

I have posted very similar opinion on not going "all-in". Primarily because I don't believe they will see a positive benefit in a costly enhancement that remains a risky proposition vs a talent pipeline that could be the foundation for a decade-plus of competitive relevance.LGB73 wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 08:47 am Yeah sure anything is possible I guess. Boy, isn't that the truth! And what's really sad is the hockey illiterate out there are going to eat this up as gospel and parrot his talking points.b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 08:44 am Nestor Quixtan obviously has no information. I got interrupted while posting. I do believe if this team competes with the big boys in the Conference they might trade some prospects and take a shot, depending on who's available and what they need. I think it's instructive to note they added Michael Del Zotto in 2019; I think that's Army's preferred approach, assemble a team and let them take it as far as they can. But they should have assets to offer up if they feel so inclined.DawgDad wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 08:52 amI have posted very similar opinion on not going "all-in". Someone needs to tweet Nestor and inform him his piece landed in the muck, buried in irrelevance.Nublues69 wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 09:12 amDID Theo or smelly greenaasss write this article under a pseudonymTBone wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 08:29 am Not a fan of the premise of this article, but I suppose anything is possible.

If the Blues tank I'll eat my hat [not my Blues cap, though].
Re: Blues Could Be Sellers Sooner Than Expected In 2025-26
What an odd article.
Re: Blues Could Be Sellers Sooner Than Expected In 2025-26
Legitimate question: How many teams use Thanksgiving, which is barely a quarter of the season, as a demarcation line to determine if they are buyers or sellers?

Re: Blues Could Be Sellers Sooner Than Expected In 2025-26
2 things.
1-American Thanksgiving is a good indicator of where yout team is at. For instacne, the percentage of making the playoffs is well south of 50% if your not in the top 9 at that point in the season. Not saying that its a lock but it's a consideration.
2-The Blues do have assets that will be on expiring contracts at the trade deadline. They would not need to be in a rebuild to sell off parts for extra picks. Let's say Sunny is having a solid year but getting outplayed by others and is just an extra piece. If the return is good enough then I would be fine.
Of course all bets are off it the Note is out of the playoffs at that time. I can't see why management would move to many yound pieces for rentals at this point though. I think Srmy sticks with the plan and they continue to build younger and get better for the long haul.
