The future at catcher
What if Bloom has seen enough of Pages and tells Contreres to get back behind the plate?

How low will Pages batting average go before a change is made?
Re: The future at catcher
I don't see Contreras being part of Bloom's roster. He will do what he can to move on from the older guys in his rebuilding of the team. Willy C and Arenado both aren't long for the Cardinals under Bloom as I see this playing out . I may be wrong .

Re: The future at catcher
He won't move WillyCon, plus he has no trade thru 2026. The only leader on this team. Need some strong vets
Is Hurdy Gurdy considered old? He's is 29 in January

Won't happen even though I move on from the overrated Pages (how's he done w/Fedde or Mikolas and why have Libby & Pallante regressed w/the "great" Pages behind the plate?) who can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag.
Bernal is the future if he keeps progressing.

Re: The future at catcher
Cardinals are desperate for an impact Right handed hitter imo. Crooks is up next but hes a lefty and no way Marmol will give Pozo/Herrera more at bats against left handed pitching. Crooks is supposed to be good defensively and holding his own in AAA. Comparison:
Pages
Age level avg/ops (Plate appearances)
23 AA .232/.754 (167)
23 AAA .222/..635 (170)
24 AA .267/.806 (497)
25 AAA .222/.917 (24)
Crooks
22 AA .321/.908 (315)
23 AAA .264/.761 (284)

Re: The future at catcher
Pages and Poho are place holders until Bernal and Crooks are ready for the majors. Contreras will not go back behind the plate.
Re: The future at catcher
He won’t because he knows that we have Crooks in AAA, Bernal in AA, and Rainiel Rodriguez in A ball coming up through the system at catcher. There is literately no reason to ever put Contreras back behind the plate.

Re: The future at catcher
I agree with this view. I know some on here are sold On Contreras and swear he is the teams best hitter, but he is not. I see no way Bloom will resign him for any price he would accept. I do believe they will play hardball with him and explain that when his time is done he will be allowed to walk. See the common sense and just waive the NTC to a team that will likely sign him if he does well. Arenado I think just wants to be where he has a chance at success and they actually want him. I just don't see either one on a Cards 2026 roster unless all avenues have been explored and rejected.
Re: The future at catcher
Uhh, he is. He was first on the team in OPS in both 2023 and 2024 and after a very slow start to 2025 he’s been a stud over his last 327 PAs (.289/.376/.493/.869 OPS). I still believe he’ll be the leader in OPS again in 2025.StlMike1969 wrote: ↑23 Jul 2025 11:15 amI agree with this view. Contreras was the teams best hitter entering rhis yesr. That isnt an argument. Thus far this year donovan herrera and burleson are outhitting him. That is also true but it doesnt rewrite history entering this year. I do agree we likely dont resign contreras. His numbers are dow. A lutzke from last yesr and after 2 more years he likely wpuld be hitting decline and it be a mistake to resign him.StlMike1969 wrote: ↑23 Jul 2025 11:15 amI agree with this view. If contreras will waive the ntc, im all for trading him if we cam get a return.
