This is a key deadline

Post by imadangman »

Is this the clean slate Mozeliak was talking about. Is he just going to let all the expiring contracts walk and leave Bloom with a clean slate of [shirt]. You want to talk about a roster going younger, just wait for 2026. Contreras and Arenado will both become payroll deadweight, come to think of it surprised if you'd be able to get a team to take on the Arenado money right now. It would be responsible for Mozeliak to do his best to clean up his mess before he leaves. Don't snooze through this one Mo.

I don’t think Contreras is going to be a payroll deadweight. He’s got a .777 OPS and is the 5th best 1B in the NL in fWAR. And he’s got an .867 OPS over his last 322 PAs. And his salary isn’t that bad over the next couple years for what he provides.

I guess it'll remain to be seen. It's 2 more full seasons. Him, Herrera or Burleson pretty much take up those DH and 1B spots. Hopefully he does remain a consistent producing hitter.

WillyC won't become "deadweight" dangman.

He's still on pace for 85-90 RBI's and is a 17% above average league hitter playing well above average defense at first base.

Now that he's out from behind the plate, he should age much better than NADO offensively.

I wouldn't expect any major changes until after the lockout. The 2026 team will look very similar to this year's. They may deal Matz or Fedde (or DFA), and Helsely. and possibly Nootbaar at the deadline. The problem with moving starting pitchers is Liberatore will probably be skipping some starts for the rest of the season. They need somebody with a glove and an arm to run out there, so I doubt more than one starting or starting(ish) pitcher is moved.
