Active players who might get to 3,000 hits

Soto draws so many walks that he isn't likely to get close to 3,000 hits IMHO.

He would have to have one extremely healthy and long career.

True, as he likely ends up top 10 all time in walks.

9 of the top 30 all time in walks also have 3,000 hits, but I think just 2 of the top 10.

He’s got 14 years left on his contract and would need to average about 137 hits a year to get there.

Altuve & Freeman are both in their age 35 season (Freddie turns 36 in Sept) and 600+ hits shy, I don't see them getting there.

With the money star players make (and anyone approaching 3,000 hits would be in that $35+M AAV category) I don't see them staying around long enough to get to 3,000 hits.

The only one I see w/a shot and it's a LONG SHOT is Vladdy, Jr.

(Soto is injury prone and walks too much so he may fall short unless he starts getting more hits, less walks)

Like 200 wins for a pitcher, the 3,000 hit club isn't going to get many more new members.

Good choices! Especially Witt as he has the talent to be that type of hitter, health permitting. Of course that’s key for longevity with any talented athlete.

In the old days, we would factor in some 200 hit seasons for Bobby Witt Jr. to give him a chance. But until players get to 2,000 hits, I don't really project anyone because of the injury issue and the age related decline issues.

Freeman is playing at such a high level still I think he has a > 50% chance to make it. Altuve is declining now, so I would put him under 50%.

Mike Trout is the quintessential player to look at when we start projecting too early. Injuries just decimated him. None of his counting stats will be that great, albeit, he will make it to the HOF based on his 2012-2020 run as the best player in baseball. But, after that...I wonder if his contract is the worst of all-time...

Soto has only had one 165 hit year. And not getting there this year.
