What the hell are the Cardinals going to do with all these catchers.
We have like 6 catchers now.
Like viable catchers.
3 in the minors
And 3 in the majors if we count Herrera.
That's a major log jam.
I guess trade bait.
The guys in the minors appear to be better than the guys in the majors.
Until they're not.

Lots of trade chips for C. Bloom to add to other players!
Bernal appears to be the one we keep.

So, we have probably 5 catchers.
One of them will undoubtedly turn into something.
Question is, will we pick the right one.
Bloom is on it though.

Hopefully one of them will turn out to be a good every day catcher who can hit and catch well.

Raniel?
I'm not sure.
This is like when we had all the pitching prospects and got rid of the wrong guy.
Alcantara.
Lord let this not happen again.

Log jams like this tend to work themselves out. Herrera is already moving away from being a catcher. Pages is showing that he’s more of a backup than a starter, so is there really even a “log jam”?

I think 3 in minors project as such.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 14:05 pm Hopefully one of them will turn out to be a good every day catcher who can hit and catch well.
Man, that's a dilemma.

There's a log jam until the isn't a jam.
Nothing's been traded yet.

Crooks is likely an upgrade over Pages at the plate and could be here next year.Bully4you wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 14:06 pmCrooks?rockondlouie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 14:04 pm Lots of trade chips for C. Bloom to add to other players!

But (IMO) Bernal (AA: 11 HR's/.282 .356 .468 .824) is the one to keep your eye on.

It’s a problem. Out of all of those catchers maybe one will turn out to be a good hitter and catcher start trading catchers now you might end up trading the one that is thatBully4you wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 14:07 pmI think 3 in minors project as such.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 14:05 pm Hopefully one of them will turn out to be a good every day catcher who can hit and catch well.

Remember the pitching plethora we had at one time and traded Alcantara for Ozuna?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 14:13 pmIt’s a problem. No catcher has proven they deserve to take the bulk of the innings in the bigs. I see no problem.

and they have 3 third basemen ...Nolan A, Gorman, Walker...
Re: What the hell are the Cardinals going to do with all these catchers.
Problem lies in that we have to provide playing time.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 14:17 pm No catcher has proven they deserve to take the bulk of the innings in the bigs. I see no problem.
Also, we have to evaluate properly.
That mean MLB playing time too.
That's the issue man.
Come on.
It's tougher than you think.

Wrong.
We have a deficient RF.
We have a unicorn.
And we have a 3rd baseman!!
