Re: Fire Oli
For those defending Oli and blaming the roster/players, I won’t defend the roster construction as its obviously not great.
But we are in some semblance of a reset/rebuild, thus the front office has acknowledged on some level that they have failed previously and need to audible and get better.
That shouldn't mean there should be a pass for inept management and leadership.
I ask you, what is Oli’s job during this reset/rebuild?
I feel he should be integral in changing the culture of the team for the better. Establishing a culture of winning and determination. A positive culture that young players can thrive in. He has failed in this. His ego is to big and misguided. He's more interested in being one of the guys than being the leader. He bristles at any hint of criticism instead of learning from it.
I feel he should be establishing an environment where fundamentals and doing the right things matter. An environment of accountability. He has failed.
Young players should not regress under his guidance. They should grow and elevate. He has failed.
He is a big part of the problem and offers nothing to believe he’d be part of the solution.
Fire Oli and make a statement to your players and your fanbase.

Don’t get it confused — I’m not saying he should be the manager in 2026 and beyond. I think whacking him midyear is uncalled for.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 16:56 pm For those defending Oli and blaming the roster/players, I won’t defend the roster construction as its obviously not great.

Managing is so much more than setting a lineup card. How can you not know that?

Oh come on. This isn't a great team but Oli costs them 5 games or so a year.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 15:55 pm He won't be fired this season. And will probably finish his contract. What established manager is signing on for a rebuild? Outside of Skip Schumaker, there is no option until the roster improves.
Re: Fire Oli
You may be mistaking me for an Oli fan. I am not. TLR had the players for sure.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 16:12 pmI looked again. Saw exactly the same thing. The Reds and Cardinals will have the same record after today. So how is it that the amazing manager Terry Francona can't get his team to be better than Oli has his team?riff raff wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 16:10 pmYou better look againcardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 16:08 pmIf only we had Terry Francona, Miles Mikolas, Erik Fedde, and Andre Pallante would be Cy Young candidates.
Also, Terry Francona can't even get his current team to be better than the Cardinals.
Fans love to give too much credit to managers for wins and too much blame on managers for losing. Yeah, TLR was a great manager, but look at those teams. Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen. What player on this current team comes even close to any of those 3? That's 2 and what should be 3 hall of fame players in the middle of the lineup.
The lack of talent on this team is sickening. You play teams like the Cubs and see the talent up and down the lineup and then you look at our lineup and it's just night and day.
That being said, I do hope Oli is gone after this season and someone new is brought in to start fresh for the Bloom era.
I've said this before. I believe the players like Oli personally, but they don't respect/trust his decisions.

He may cost them 5 a year. But no top notch manager is looking to work with a roster with this rotation, very little power, and a fluid roster.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 17:02 pmOh come on. Re: Fire Oli
That is it exactly. Give me an experienced and more hard nosed manager. You are not there to be there friend or hand out participation trophies and go for pizza with them after the game. Also, why isn't McG up from AAA and taking some starts? Right now we have three SPs who have absolutely stunk it up for multiple starts in a row. Change something. At last Walker hit a mistake hard. I guess that is something.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 18:01 pmMiles said other than a couple big thumps that he was pretty solid.

Sometimes you change the manager to shake a team up. They cannot get any worse. Oli is unable to motivate them. Sure, they are overmatched often, but they are not playing up to their abilities as a team. Total funk.

That's how the cookie crumbles.
In comes Bloom.
Out goes Oli.
It's the right time for early off season.

Im not opposed to this. But if oli is canned now, who finishes the season? Clapp? I agree. But you aren't upgrading during a rebuild. And this one looks like a 3 year project.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 17:43 pmJust because the team sucks doesn’t mean they should keep a manager who sucks alsoJuanAgosto wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 17:33 pmHe may cost them 5 a year. 1st inning: DBacks score 1 run on couple pitches. THen MM also walks Naylor putting runners on 1st & 2B w/1 out. Could be the hottest hitter in NL, at least hottest HR hitter, comes to bat. Instead of NOT letting Suarez face MM T Ball quality curve or flat line FB they pitch to him. Of course it is then 4-0. No doubt the rationale is DelCastillo and Alexander are the reincarnation of Maris and Mantle.
On to the 5th inning. Cards get 3 walks to start the inning . NO OUTS. Donovan GO - run scores. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. 1 out. Herrara - SO and Burleson does his usual no show with GO.
Both instances could be - that's MLB - if it was in fact one of few times this occurred. Big games, especially against quality team this is the norm. This team does not have big game, game critical, etc manager or players.
IT would so appropriate if the incompetent manager, who should have never been hired - then extended, were to be fired today or tomorrow. Just have to have the skill, will, and cajones to make the right decision.

Re: Fire Oli
If we act like its a 3 year project then just wait 3 years, in 2 years we will be saying it needs another 3 years. In 2023 we said 3 years and now 2026 is staring us in the face. Its time to get agressive and build as much as possible for next year (year 4), try to legit contend and then keep improving from there. Its going to take outside talent because after MM, Fedde, Helsley are gone there will be plenty of money and plenty of holes. Also all our high prospects will be ready by sometime in 26. No reason to wait to bring in talent past 26 unless you just don't want to admit its impossible and we will never be ready to spend.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 18:31 pmI agree. Regardless, Oli isn't helping along the development process nor is he getting the best out of the vets we are paying for.

I would prefer a guy who is good at developing young players and teaching fundamentals to the younger players. At this point I would prefer stubby clapp over hey let’s just let oli keep the job even though he’s done nothing to deserve to keep it just because it’s a three year projectJuanAgosto wrote: ↑20 Jul 2025 18:31 pmI agree.
